Tire insurance on leases...
I\'m picking up my new BMW z4 35i tomorrow morning. I worked the numbers down to 520 a month with 2,000 down for 24 months. Coming from a BMW 335xi I had the horrible run flat experience.
Do you have tire insurance on your leases and if so how much did it cost you? |

If you plan on keeping the stock rims and RFT i would get it.
And if youre getting the 296 19" wheels DEF get it cause they crack like crazy. If youre gonna change the tires and/or rims its not worth it, or look into an aftermarket wheel insurance that will cover aftermarket wheels.

I just picked up my car (from leasing company) and he showed me the aftermarket covg that covers literally EVERYTHING. It was 750. I didnt get it.
Im planning on buying Miro's which are 800 so the cost/benefit ratio wasnt really there. If i had planned on getting custom wheels for 4k+ like my last car itd be a diff story.

I'm sure it's a great product I just have heard horror stories from people with 3rd party warranties so I try to avoid them.
Still would love to know if anyone bought tire insurance for a 24 month lease on a z4 and how much they paid. |

To the best of my knowledge all insurance is through third parties. Ask your CA to explain coverage. I looked at wheel and tire damage and normal things are not covered like curbing or flats. However, wheel damage or tire damage where the wheel is bent and out of true is covered. Expense coverage.

thanks op for asking this, I would like to know too. Wondering if its worth it...
Or...I was thinking instead of spending money on the insurance, I'll buy a new set of tires and just keep the Run flats until I return my lease. Better idea? Last edited by J_Square; 07-31-2011 at 01:25 AM.. |

That is definitely a decent alternative. I just am worried as I have 19" sport wheels that I heard crack.
Anyone buy tire insurance on the z4? If so has it worked out well for you? How much did you pay? And are flats covered under the policy? |

If you have style 296 wheels buy insurance. I bought third party tire and wheel insurance for mine. 5 year plan including curb rash coverage for $850. I bent two wheels, blew one tire. Cost of repairs was around $1500 so I'm already ahead with the insurance. If you are considering the BMW coverage read all the exclusions carefully! It is my understanding that bulging is not covered. At the time I bought my car the BMW coverage was too little coverage for too much money. I'm glad I bought the 3rd party. You can do a search on this board and read all the gory details of what happened. I'll spare everybody else lest I turn into Rolf-Dieter.

Coverage is through Trident Protection Systems http://www.tridentprotectionsystems.com/ Wasn't a hassle at all. Had the car towed to the dealership, dealership did all the paperwork. I didn't have to pay a penny. Picked the car up two days later good as new.
