Day/weekend trip ideas?
I've got some PTO days to burn before the year ends. Looking for some ideas on day trips or weekend type trips to take between now & the end of December. Don't matter where, but let's keep this on the smaller budget side. I'll save the big stuff for my real vacations. Also, not going alone. Taking a lady friend.

Are you planning on driving or could you fly?
Either way, you're a day's drive away from tons of stuff. Go see your sports team play a game Go to baseball/football/rock and roll Hall of fame Take the Vette on the dragon Do touristy stuff in DC Go to a concert |

Flying takes up so much time, crowded w/annoying sick people.
Hit a spa (Hershey Hotel, Nemacolin) massages, swim/run a dinner, shower drive home late the same or the next night. Sad the Mack truck assembly plant no longer has tours, I'm outside Baltimore and would like to hit the Yuengling brewery. Like others said, just hit the road, find a good road side restaurant. |

If you like sports, pick an event and plan a trip around it.
Also lots to do in DC - places to visit, food to eat, etc. Driving school somewhere warm. Do nothing - stay home and relax before the holiday grind cranks up.

Fly into Asheville NC.
Stay at the Bohemian Tour the Biltmore Estate Rent a car and drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway Tour Sierra Nevada Brewery and sample their product for lunch. Then a night in downtown eating at Salza or any number of FANTASTIC restaurants on the square so you can people watch. Fly home and start planning your return trip |

Agree Asheville is also a great choice but not the easiest to fly into unless you live near an airport with a direct flight. We spent a day driving each way from South Florida, so that's 2 days + at least 3-4 in Asheville but travel time will depend on flights or driving distance.
We stayed at the 1900 Inn on Montford which was great (and pet friendly if you have a dog). We went to the Biltmore on a previous trip and it is getting expensive so we skipped it this time around. Downtown area is great place to eat, drink, shop and hang out. Lots of great places to eat in Asheville. My wife liked all the antiques in town, although they seem more like flea markets to me. Blue Ridge is a nice drive.
