front tow hook cover gone -- not covered under warranty?
I have a 35i Z4 ... my front tow hook cover has disappeared. The way I park I typically see the front of the car every evening. No car wash, no particular bad pot hole or anything like that, no "bad area" where people would steal such things, ...
The other day, after driving home from work, I noticed it was missing. Stopped by the dealer today. Of course not covered by the warranty (car is less than 2.5 years old). Rather expensive, comes unpainted, double the cost to have it painted. Anybody any experience with this? I guess I should email BMW and see whether it's really not covered. |

It could have been stone that's smacked it while driving and its popped out. Its not terribly hard to remove, on purpose. I'm afraid you'll likely have to stump up for a replacement.

Buy the unpainted cover and buy the spray paint matching your body color as a DIY.
Bavarian Auto has good quality BMW match paint. Done correctly, no one will ever know.

I ponied up for the replacement part. I had the dealer take care of the paint, but they never disguised the fact that they sent it to a third party paint shop. You might be able to get it done or do it your self cheaper. Regardless, it sucks.

It happened to me as well. I noticed it as soon as I got through the car wash and they reimbursed me for the $75 the dealer charged me. I was lucky I noticed it. The original was never found so it remains a mystery.

Funny thing is they ordered the part for the non-M bumper. Both the SA and I were trying to figure out how it could possibly fit. The tech just took about 1 second to figure out it was the wrong part for the sport bumper... They'll order me another one...
In a way I am glad they have a tech with enough experience to figure that one out immediately, figured there aren't too many with Z4 hands on experience. |
