This is where the world could globalise and settle on a set of battery parameters, and unite, rather than be dictated too by a few old men who are on history book trip.

If car design involved a fore or rear standardised battery location so you could pull up in the swap and go station mid winter and be on your way in the time it takes to order a coffee. Bit like a fast pit stop for a tyre.

But the haters/disinterested/non thinkers rule the decisions at present and want it old school because that is how they are making money.

Well I am which is why I am posting in a thread about gas prices. Still trying to figure out why you're here though.

I don't even care about these gas prices because I'm staying parked as long as I can and tooling around on the weekend in the wife's CX-5...

I actually do care, though. But when it comes to filling up the IS 500, since I am my Dad's caretaker and run errands and take him places, he foots the gas bill.

As with most things these days a certain segment of people are convinced that EVs are horrible. Almost always without having even sat it one, much less driven it.

Are EVs the perfect vehicle for trips (I'm being US-centric here)? No. Are they better 98% of the time? Yep. Of course, this is the case for my usage, and YMMV.

Also: I paid ~$4.30 per gallon for premium at QT (SC) yesterday.

Now think of all the places he took you and never charged you for gas..Let the old man keep his coins bro. That's your dad!

We get 100 oct at the pump here in Las Vegas at certain gas stations. Prior to everything happening, it was $9.38/gal. Yesterday (3/22/26) it was $9.48/gal.

I bought some of my kids a 2 year old Nissan Leaf each. Great little run-around-town car, but with only 200+ range I wouldn't take it on a road trip. To make it worse, the Japanese (and older Korean) cars have the CHAdeMO DC plugs which are very rare around here so we are stuck with AC charging (and only single phase in the Leaf) so max 16A (about 6-8 hours for a full charge).

My understanding has always been:

Longer trips, towing - Diesel
Around town (lots of stop-start) - EV (although, the new i3 is supposed to have 900km range)
Everything else, performance - Petrol

BTW, some stations are now running out of fuel around here..

When I moved Mom and Dad out to CA so I could look after them I drove them wherever they wanted/needed to go. And although they offered to fill the gas tank or buy me lunch I always declined.

Just saw it the other day a list of countries and their petro reserves and Australia was at the bottom of around 30 countries.

Donny's little foray has diesel at $3.10p/lt on day 24 of his short war. Or that is $8.24 us/gal.

Up $1.14au per lt, 24 days ago it cost me $1372 to fill a truck every 4 days, now its $2170. That's coming home to your dinner table and every thing you consume.

Can't wait for electricity to match fuel, as gas will be the next FU.

Well, considering Dad is pretty well off and can afford to pay me and have plenty of money left over, I'm thinking I'll let him pay for gas.

I'm also his caretaker as a full-time job right now.

Just replying in a conversation that somebody else started, as you can see if you scroll back a bit. That and, obviously EVs are on topic for a conversation about gas prices, since one of the major remaining issues with EVs is that they are still relatively expensive. More expensive gas makes that initial hurdle easier to overlook for many prospective buyers since they can expect to make it back in lower operating costs.

Over here, the latest numbers are SEK 19/liter for gas, SEK 22/liter for diesel. In freedom units that's USD $7.71/gal of gas, or $8.93/gal of diesel. Meanwhile, electricity prices are actually down a fair bit thanks to the warmer weather. People will be doing the maths.

You guys over there need to enjoy it. We're at the worse and coming to worst on the gas price. And it impacts everything else.

We’re paying $0.00/gal right now because BMW/EA is paying 100% “free charging” to our G60 i5…… it’s such a calm car, bit boring of a car, but whatever.

We decided to put our gas cars in storage for now… at least until the EA promo expires later this year.

But what is shocking is the damn above $7/gallon for diesel. I used to drive a VW Golf TDI many years ago before diesel gate and remember it being the dollars plus cheaper alternative per gallon… what the heck happened there!!

Just did my first fill-up on the X5 40i. Ouch $95.00, a long way from the fill ups on the Toyota Tacoma I traded in. Bottom line, it's worth every penny over the cost of filling up the Taco.
Not fun but worth it.
