3.0 sport package tires, sell them?
ok, so it looks like the tires that will be coming with my z4 are bridgestone re050A (re050A I) run-flats. I've had various bridgestones before, and frankly, i hate them. I do like michelin pilot sport a/s plus tires. They have much better wet traction and last 2-3 times longer.
So, how is the best way to get rid of the stock bridgestone tires? Has anyone heard of a dealer buying those new (practically speaking) tires in return for me buying the new tires from them? Do you think the ebay route would be better? How about craigslist? Finally, what do you think i could get for them (say they have less than 15 miles on them) ? 75% of msrp? 50% of msrp? please give me your thoughts and experiences... |

The wife's 335i came with Bridgestone RE050A run-flats and I hate to admit it, but I like 'em. Only downside I've experienced is tramlining on a stretch of grooved freeway. They grip well, ride is nice, no noise.

I hated the Bridgestone RE050A's on a 650i but they seemed improved on the new Z4. There were rather noisey at the start but have gotten quieter once broken in. The ride is also decent and I even have the 19s.
If you go with non RFTs, certainly invest in a "mobility kit", basically an air compressor with flat repair goop. Available from BMW and major auto parts stores. No room for a spare.

I hated the first generation RFs from Bridgestone - they were terrible on the 2003 Z4 3.0; however, the new generation Bridgestone RFs on the 2009 are really good - I know, it sounds crazy

A lot of z4 owners here in Italy bought falken FK452 and found them excellent, they are now so impressed that they think worthless to buy Michelin PS2.....
I hope to change soon my RFT....so I can see the difference and tell my honest opinion....I had a 2006 3.0Si and I admit that new RFT are better...but it 's like to change pavement in a toilet...after it's still a toilet... Francesco |

i had two problems with the bridgestones (around 2005): 1) extreme tire noise once they started to age 2) very short treadlife (15k-20k tire life). I do those miles in a year or less, so every year i would have to spend another $1200-$1500 for new tires.
I switched over to michelin ps2's. They were better than the bridgestones, far less tire noise and a bit more treadlife (25k-30k). the ps2s do suffer from severe inner tire wear though. when the ps2's wore out, i went to michelin pilot sport a/s plus. They are cheaper than all the tires discussed here, have 2-3 times more treadlife (40k-50k) than anything listed here and also i have not noticed any performance degradation between them and the ps2s. they are the best tire i have ever had. so, i can keep the bridgestones for 1 year (by which time they will be bald) and then buy the a/s plus tires for $1k or i can sell the bridgestones (almost new) and in effect buy the michelin's for $250-$500 (depending on what i can sell the bridgestones for). fyi, the msrp for the bridgestones is > $300 per tire. |
