Noise When Top is Up
When the top is up, I hear a noise from the back of the interior of the car every time I hit a decent sized imperfection in the road. Like something is rattling or rubbing against something else.
Is anyone else having this issue? If so, have you determined the cause and the solution or have you taken it in for service to be fixed? Thanks, |

Hopefully someone has gone to the dealer and had it fixed, so they can let us know. Perhaps at that point it will be documented in the BMW database, so they don't have to troubleshoot and test drive the car 10x to fix it. Hopefully a TSB will be released. That would be even better.

Something like this should be covered under 48 mo./ 48k bumper to bumper warranty. That sounds odd that they told you it is only covered for 12 months. |

I think a bit of rubbing where the rear screen meets the deck is to be expected, especially going over rough road surfaces. I find it varies depending on temperature, humidity and when the top was last folded. I applied some Gummi Pflege:

I also wondered whether any other noises could be coming from the boot tray, which seems to be quite flexible... I recalibrated my tyre pressures at the weekend. The backs were about 2 psi too low and the fronts were 2 psi too high! The car certainly feels a lot different now.

Does anyone have any first hand experience of what the 3 series cabrio with folding hard roof is like in terms of rattles/squeaks/noises? I think if you jump over to that forum you will see a few major issues, including some nasty leaks on a few cars!

look in trunk
In my trunk in the left side there is a compartment that has a lid on it with two round tow screws inside that are loose and were banging against each other. I just taped them together and taped them to the bottom of the compartment and the sound went away. Hard to believe BMW would ship a car like that from Germany with those things sitting loose in the small compartment in the trunk but they did.

Sound from rear
I get this when reversing out of my drive......final part of drive is 3/4" drop onto road and 'clank' from Rear LHS.
Do NOT get it when driving INTO driveway, only as it drops on the way out..... |

Solution - I Hope
I took Uslic's suggestion and removed the packet of tools from the rear storage area and just put it in the glove box. This got rid of only some of the noise.
Then I applied some multi purpose grease to the little black tab that hangs down from the middle of the rear glass. This seems to have gotten rid of the rest of the noise(s) I was hearing with the top up. |

28000 miles in an '07 335i E93 convertible: zero rattles, squeaks, etc. from the roof. Only 'noise' issue with the metal roof is in a really hard, pounding rain — it do get loud, folks.

I don't think TWO hooks is a standard fit...after all, that would imply the possible requirement for a push/pull tow |

Any news?
Did anyone manage to get this resolved? I find that it happens intermittently and varies between annoying and really annoying in volume. Only happens when roof is up so shouldn't be suspension related.
I also have comfort access and have heard that the roof can lift out of the boot (trunk) slightly when it's stored to get access. Does anyone know how this works? Nothing in the manual. |
