US Configurator is up!
US Configurator is finally up with the new Z4.
No wheel options or dct though, my config with: - Jet black - kansas red leather - Aluminium trim - Sports package - comfort access - ipod/usb - nav - heated seats - through load system - alarm - pdc $59,600 Same config on an e93 335i was $58,225, so that's not too bad really. We'd predicted it to be on par with the E93 and it seems like it is. |

im wondering about how fast the increased top speed limiter will go in the sport pkg.
according to the specifications, the top speed is 130mph for manual, 150 mph for auto. Is that after or before the sport pkg? If before, then how fast will it reach? 160? 170? 180? anyone know? |

no, they're just different.
Jet black is non-metallic and free, Black Sapphire is metallic and costs. With the Z4 prices hovering around M3 coupe prices that is going to make it a tough sell. |

They've also added the M-Sport package to the 335i on there today and that looks to be a pretty good deal on that car.
I think if you're in the market for a convertible then the Z4 is a good choice - particularly given its price point relative to the E93 335i, but as a pure drivers car I'd have to go with an M3 coupe. It's all a bit academic for me at the moment with a wedding to pay for, but I think middle of next year I'll be seriously shopping for something so I'm getting my shortlist worked out |

P1 options
Hi all,
Does anyone know what the P1 options (if any) are? I am especially interested in the Anthracite wood trim with black leather as opposed to the white leather in the ivory white package. Thanks! |

I would also be interested in the Anthracite wood with black leather but in Switzerland you can't get it. You can only buy the Anthracite wood "after market" and exchange it yourself but BMW would charge 1'900 CHF for the Anthracite wood |

Welcome to European pricing...
With BMW mentioning that the US market is by far the most important market for the Z4, it is hard to understand why they introduce it at this price. They must be very confident with the quality of the car... While I feel sorry for potential buyers in the US, rest assured you are merely being charged what we have been paying all along PS: My (nicely equiped) 23i has a list price of 87'290 CHF (=75'000 USD) and I pay 80'200 CHF (=69'000 USD) after discount. Reading that people get almost no discount for the Z4 in the US (as it is a newly released car) maybe there is something for US dealers to learn while prices reach European levels. PPS: Base price of the 23i in Switzerland is 59'900 CHF (=51'700 USD) - that is without any options! |

One example of a P1 option in the US is Anthracite headliner on the 5 series. It has always been available independent of the now offered M-Sport package. The thing with P1 options is some dealers don't push them or even let the customer know they are available. Unless you follow these forums and keep up with that stuff, most people would probably not know they exist.

If anyone is interested in buying this car, please read below.
If you are thinking about this car as a daily driver with bit of fun and as your only car, consider followings and give yourself a second car. I'm comparing as with fully loaded sdrive35i. Sports car lover 1.E92 335i with S2000 and pocket some change. Pro: You get great coupe ride with hella fun roadster with great reliabilty for weekends. Con: Sucks if you aren't into owning used cars. M lovers 2. E46 M3 with E86 Z4M Pro: Now you own ultimate 2 Ms in your garage and they both will kick E89's ass anyday anytime. Cons: Used cars and you don't have change left. Hardcore enthusiasts 3. Boxster S with Lotus Elise Pro: Great sports for both track and street. Cons: Lack of cargo If you are just looking for the ultimate daily driver and no second car, 1. Get the E92 M3. Period. If you are looking for the ultimate joy rides, For those who wants the new sports cars 1. Cayman S 2. MB SLK AMG 55 For those who wants the head turners 1. Late year model NSX. Man I don't know, I can go forever to come up with better choices combos. It's just so dumb to spend that much money for this mediocore sports car. |

I've had the two side-by-side in my garage (330i; 550i) and frankly like the jet black better. BS is slightly easier to keep up, but JB can take a shine like nothing else. Black cars are a PITA to keep at their best regardless of the particular shade or metallic content.
