Porsche 911 or Z4
I know not a apple to apple comparsion. Scenario: Z4 is a convertible, and the carerra is a hardtop, non turbo. If price isn't part of the equation, which would you choose based on the looks, the driving experience, and emotional experience.
Would the open air experience be the deciding factor? Or what is the deciding factor? The brand name? Talk to me? |

If you dont need the space ditch the m3(I dont belive what I am saying, it is an insain car)
In norway a loaded z35 is 170 000 usd and you get a cool 997 for that. Its hard! the 911 probably is a better sportscar and z4 a better cruiser. What are you looking for? The z4 will probably draw more attention than the 911. miss it

What drove me away from Porsche is the cost of ownership. It's way out there compared with BMW. I bought a 2008 Z4MC and I can barely hold my own againt my colleague at work who owns a 99 base Carrera convertible. The Porsche sound is just incredible and that car is made to be driven fast. His car is not even modified. I must say that I'm not much of a race car driver and probably that a good race driver would fare better with a Z4MC.
In terms of performance Porsche will beat the Z4 anytime. It will just cost you a fortune to run it. |

At a glance the 2009 CaymanS seems to be a competitor to the new Z4?

Boxster S ? But the thing is....only a sw upload up the twin turbo Z4 gets you about 400 hp and 421 ft lb (Dinan $1999) , then add in the big oil cooler for $1699, and Dinan matches your bumper to bumper warranty guarantee. Quote:

I'd really like to know what people think about the Z4 vs Boxster comparison. I've been oscillating between the two for my next purchase.

Yes it is the car i had this summer. Spent to much on it, but i dont think you have to worry about it with the 997. If i hadent work in BMW i would said the 997 but I am not sure!

But how can you compare a new Z4 to a new 911(997) ?
In Norway the Z4 will pricewise start at less than half of a 997. I think the new Z4 is more comparable with Boxster/Cayman. Will there be an M version of the new Z4 ? |

If $$ is not object the Porsche. My experience with Porsche is not the cost of buying, but the cost of maintaining. Porsche parts are really, really expensive, even compaired to BMW.

Speaking from experience...Have had the following BMWs:
06 BMW 530i 07 BMW 335i Coupe 07 BMW Z4M Roadster and now, 08 Porsche 911 Carrera S I vote for the 911. Love the 335i and the Z4M, but just doesn't have the over all feel of the 911. |
