Who needs to lose weight? Let's start a thread for motivation/advice/help.
Anyways, I was searching the forward and didn't find much. This other forum I'm part of has the same type of thread, so it's a good idea to keep each other motivated. It may be losing weight/building muscle/or just keeping in shape, but I find having someone to talk to during the day/keeping a journal really helps. And of course, with the population on this forum, comes knowledgeable people to different area's of health. Me, myself am always looking to learn more about the human body and the way it works. I could say in the last two months, I came very interested into health & the body.
Anyways, that was just an intro to see who is really looking to shed some pounds and get in shape during the winter for the beach season.. (ex-spring brk/next summer/watever reason you may have *insert here). A little story about me, I'll start... I started at the weight of 235. I am currently 202. I started my diet about 1 month and half ago, roughly 6 weeks also. I was just sick of all the bad foods I was eating, after roughly a few years. My goal is around 165-170, then I want to start building muscle. I tried a few times prior to losing weight, I tried a lot of bullshit companies such as jenny craig and all that stuff. It didn't seem to work, because for one, I'm a picky eater and was getting tired of eating the same t.v. dinner over and over again, boring in other words! I stated to simplify fall off. My diet is 7 days a week, unless I go out to eat on a fri/sat with the girlfriend. If I do eat a little bit over, I hop right back on in the morning to keep things going strong. I have dieted a few times in the past and always said if I go out to eat, I would get back on right in the morning, and believe it or not, I didn't. At that time I didn't have good self control. Everything about losing weight, so far from what I figured is in our mind. The mind is a very strong tool to us, but sometimes can work against us, we just have to fight it back. Anyways, before my diet I was eating 2200+ cal. a day, crazy right? I know. As of now, I try to eat 1500 a day. Sometimes a tad over, but usually always under. Wake up: 7am-small breakfast 300 cal. 11am- Snack of 100 - usually a nice protein bar of some sort. Has all three basic groups. 1pm-Lunch a nice lunch of 400 cal.. usally 2 oz of meet on toasted wheat bread. or if u need a slice of cheeze and 1 oz of meet. 4pm-snack again of 100 - usually popcorn of some sort/100 cal pack, but you have to watch because those are high in salts. 7pm-dinner- 500 cal, I eye/weigh most of my stuff to make sure I'm eating right. I was weighing most of my stuff the first week to get a feel of how big I could eat, so in case I went out I would know what to do. 8 or 9pm- snack 100 - IF NEEDED. It's easy to remember, 300,400,500 and 100's in between for snacks. = 1500. I try to avoid the snack after 7 because I had a problem of eating a lot after I ate dinner, this has been working great for me, so this thread will be very helpful for me as a motivational source. Exercise, I try to get in 3-4 days a week of cardio for now. I do some minor chest/arms/legs but not to much since I don't want to build muscle yet. Thanks for the thread, I wish you guys the best!!! Well I hope I'm not alone here, but I hope you guys can share some stories. |

8am 2 pills of lipo6 9am 2 omega eggs, 2 egg whites 11am protein shake 1pm 8oz of chicken, with a few veggies 1:30pm Animal Pak vitamins 3pm protein shake 5pm 2 pills of lipo6 6pm 8oz of salmon, or swordfish, or red meat, with veggies 8pm 2 omega eggs, and 2 egg whites 10pm protein shake I've been 5 days on this diet, and i can already tell is working great, but its really boring, just like you i haven't really been lifting hard just a few work outs here and there, but i've been running and hitting the puching bag.. Nice idea . I have always been a fan of the motto "The day you look in the mirror and are satisfied is the day you lose the battle." This applies to all aspects of your life.
I am in a similar boat, i just started trying to get back in to shape about 3.5 months ago and I have a couple comments on your plan. First, why aren't you building muscle. For every pound of muscle you add, you burn 35-50 more calories a day just to maintain it, let alone additional muscle to exercise. In addition, fat is a low burn energy source, the exact type of energy you burn sitting around working or sleeping all day. So extra muscle pays off big there for fat burning. Second, it sounds like you are restricting your diet too much. I started 3.5 months ago at 142lbs and set a daily intake range of 2k-2.2k high in protein. my 142lbs burned around 2k before exercise and about 2.5k-2.7k after exercise, leaving me a 500 calorie a day deficit. If you read around, you will see that any diet that is greater then a 500 calorie a day deficit risks pushing you into starvation mode, causing you to burn fat, muscle and bone more evenly, something you don’t want. As I noted with my above approach (includes 5-6 hours a week of weight lifting only), I have jumped to 152 lbs and went from 13.5% body fat to 8.5%. All while eating plenty of food for someone of my size. With all diet plans, make sure it something you can live with day in and day out, or you will just yo-yo and never be both satisfied with how you look and how you eat/excersize. not sure you want to hear it...but i did the NutriSystem for Men program from last Sept through March and I lost 63lbs...I'm now working out 2x a week, in addition to my normal ice hockey 2x a week, and I run 4miles on Sat and Sun...I added about 10lbs of lean muscle...
Now I eat a pretty low cal diet...keep it to 1600-1800/daily, lots of proteins, low fat, strictly reduce white flours.white sugars or refined stuff...and limit carbs... Seems to be working great. I went from almost 248lbs and really fat, to 195lbs and avg/athletic build and sports, sleeping, and everything (yes sex included) are much much better. Good luck with your goals. Stick to it and make small victories, pretty soon you will be where you want to be.

I've lost weight and gained it many times as a result of being a retired serious athlete.
The biggest thing I've found if you really want to lose weight is that you must change your habits and how you live. You must change your lifestyle. If you don't, you'll just put the weight right back on as soon as you end your diet. However, if you've changed how you live you are no longer on a 'diet'. You are just eating like normal, in your new style of living. If you sit around alot, get up. Do something, anything. Just change the habit. Also, starting to cook for oneself is a great benefit and step. It takes time, but don't treat it like a chore, its an event. It can be fun. And it absolutely is enjoyable. Watch some Gordon Ramsay, he will inspire you to get into cooking great food for yourself. Plus, when you cook for yourself you know exactly what you are eating. Portion control is back in your own hands, and it only gets better from there.

Don't read too far into it. I'm not saying go vegetarian. I'm just posing the question... have you ever seen a Fat vegetarian? I seriously have never seen one.
While I love eating beef, chicken, and fish and I will never give it up. It's something to think about, you know?

YOU GUYS
heres the secret to massive weightloss, ive lost 70 pounds in 7 months: dont eat bread, rice, noodles, pasta/anything with carbs, its hard but if you turn it into a lifestyle it isnt hard. No more juice, sweets or bad carbs. Try to go running or get yourself sweating everyday. I know this seems farfetched but if your willing to take hundreds of pills you may just wanna save some money and be happy...
