Valve and Default setting on G82 questions
Just bought a 24' G82 comp xdrive
If I set the default setting to sport, etc. The next time I get in the car it defaults back to comfort/efficient, is that normal, or do I have a memory issue. Also, Exhaust button, yes it opens the valve, but to what degree 25% 50% do we know. and would it make sense to get a valve controller to open 100% for a more aggressive tone?

the default settings are not adjustable.
the exhaust valves are variable, the position depends on many factors including the button, the engine mode, rpm, load, gear etc. if you just want them open 100% all the time then it makes sense to get a valve controller.

Thanks Chris. makes sense.
Any views on the default comfort/ efficient default setting that changes back to default after I change it after each ride? Is that by design?

yes it's by design you can't alter the default startup settings. you can get a cando+ device if you want to do that.

FYI. you can actually overide this with bimmercode app...default to all sports setting and actuall sport+ making it the default.

If you want the exhaust valves open 100% all the time:
1. Remove the valve actuator on each side by removing (3) 10mm screws on each. 2. Manually open the valves to 100%. 3. Reconnect the actuator but makesure the spring is not sitting in the groove that opens the valve. 4. Remove exhaust valve fuse in rear fuse box. I've done this to both my M2 & wife's X3MC. Takes about 5 min & costs $0 |

Is this a new feature? Coding to default into sport mode wasn't possible for as long as I can remember.

You dont want to set sport mode as default on startup. It'll do more harm than good. Think about you wake up in the morning, go to the gym and do the heavy lifting right away, or jump to the pool and swim right away without a proper warm up.

Just opens up the valves in a more advanced state. I still let it warm up the same...Just has a more aggressive tone at start up since its currently stock with just valve controllors and mid pipe.
I hear what you are saying, but Im not driving it hard after starting it up.

I can personally vouch for the 11Mode controller if you want to forego messing with the hard parts of the valves. A little pricey for what it is but honestly it's been perfect since day 1. You just clip the included wiring bundle in between the valve connectors and it's ready to rock; no external box to mount, no crazy wiring mess to cinch up with zip ties all over, no splicing external power in. 2 modes/buttons on the remote: Full open and stock. That's it.
It's kept me from pulling the trigger on any catback or axleback system out there because it gives me just enough tone to be happy with it...for now.
