Extended warranty recommendation
I'm about to take delivery on a new '26 X2. I am considering purchasing an extended warranty through the dealer. They use "Roadvantage" vehicle service contracts. I was told that BMW no longer offers extended warranties direct, only 3rd party policies are available. Hmmm. Another dealer in town utilizes Zurich. When I brought that up I was told not to ever use them citing claim denials. Researching both of these I've seen complaints of declined claims, use of after-market or remanufactured parts, disputing the use of OEM parts. Yikes.
Has anyone here had experience with "Roadvantage"? Any insight either pro or negative would be welcomed. Thanks. |

2) You can buy an extended warranty any time before the factory warranty expires. Buying when you take delivery of a new car is a pretty big waste – you're paying for something you can't possibly use for years. 3) You can buy an extended warranty from any BMW dealer, so shop around. The consensus here seems to be the Camarillo (CA) BMW has very competitive prices. See this thread. 4) Be very careful to read the list of what's not covered by the warranty. You'd be surprised what some of them will omit. 4) I'm not getting in to whether extended warranties are worth the money because that rabbit hole has been thoroughly spelunked. For the love of god everyone else please do this as well. Last edited by Phillies8008; 03-26-2026 at 07:32 AM.. Reason: Extra word |

BMW still offers BMW branded warranties. They are administered by SafeGuard. Competitors have jumped on this by claiming that the BMW Warranty is now a “third party warranty”. The BMW Platinum Warranty is still the gold standard. It does not cover everything that the factory warranty covers, but it is close. (Will not cover replacing headlights, for example). You can buy the BMW Warranty at any BMW dealer in the country. (Except those that only sell third parties.)

good morning. We heavily discount BMW plans for forum members. Once you take delivery you can reach out to us. You will not be able to get any insight till you take delivery as the car is not in the system yet. You can get a warranty at anytime during the factory warranty timeline.
all you need to do to get a no hassle quote is shoot your vin number, current miles, and what all you are looking over to the gals at vipfinance@bmwofcamarillo.com If you dont hear back after 24hours just shoot me a PM on here. If you can't PM yet just tag me and put the first part of your email addy in there so I can reference it (ex: ilovebmw@...) **We only sell BMW plans. You can only qualify for a BMW plan if you are still under factory warranty (miles/terms). Once you are over you are unable to get a BMW plan. Quotes will vary depending on indiv situations (model, miles, etc..) the closer you get to the end of your terms the higher the price will be. Thats just how BMW does it. lastly wheel and tire is only available at signing, once you drive off you are unable to get that plan. ![]()

Are there other BMW protection plans that I can buy right now? (GAP, dent repair, or whatever?) Yes, I Know the tire/wheel plan is not available to me, but my wheels are no longer the original ones anyway. Thanks! |

Just Google "Extended Warranty" then see what you decide to do.

There are kernels of truth (or more) in every one of these posts, including your OP, all of which adds up to a terrible example of brand management by BMW.
I detest in-dealership negotiations, so I endeavored to buy a factory extended warranty online in December 2025. Via the BMW USA site (referenced in another post), I bought the Platinum VSC warranty for an X7 M50 and thought I'd bought an extended factory warranty just like the one I have on a late-model domestic. I didn't. Your dealer actually is right. BMW does NOT have its own factory warranties, but has engaged SafeGuard instead, so it is NOT a factory-direct plan... but it is effectively the factory's partner of choice. In practice that means a few things that I've had the very recent misfortune of discovering: 1. Don't expect your dealership staff to be trained on the particulars of this program. The shift to it may be recent and there may be some catch-up in order (note generous doses of benefit of doubt here), but they likely won't know details like towing coverage and accessing that service under the plan (as one example of several). 2. As was pointed out elsewhere, even though it's marketed as a "factory plan," it also isn't systems-integrated into the dealership's IT and the myBMW app. In other words, it won't show up where BMW original warranty, emissions coverage, maintenance plans etc. information appears, and a host of various calls and contacts are required to use it. 3. Far more aggravating than the prior point is that this factory-brokered 3rd-party arrangement means that substantial (or maybe all?) repairs need to be approved by SafeGuard. That means the dealer tech does the diagnostics and identifies the necessary remedies, only to then have to wait for a SafeGuard representative to perform a physical inspection and to approve the repair procedure. None of these processes seem to be well-integrated and mean a lot of extra heavy lifting for your dealer's service advisor. This translated to a full 3 weeks in the shop for the first covered repairs; they involved less than 10 hours of labor. 4. There are positives to mention, though: the BMW/SafeGuard plan (unsurprisingly) does not involve/require the use of aftermarket parts. Also, having been away from the BMW online community after parking the race car ~20 years ago, I didn't think to price-shop the warranty ahead of my purchase. BMW of Camarillo would have covered my vehicle for 20% less than what I paid (which adds up on a 5-figure plan). While the discounts aren't as great, they do offer better pricing on factory maintenance plans as well. And, needless to say, the repair and maintenance costs on these very complex vehicles do make the plans an attractive option IMHO. Hope that helps, and in any event, do enjoy your new car - they truly are a delight to drive! Last edited by Istdoch Allesegal; 03-29-2026 at 11:24 AM.. |

This is good and helpful info. Just a BUMP so it stays top of mind for folks considering a BMW (now Safeguard) ESP.

If it is not the BMW manufacturer warrranty, never purchase an extended warranty from the dealer you purchased the car from. The price will be inflated wait and get one on your own outside of the dealership, or not get one at all and put your money you would have paid for the warranty on average and put it in a high yield savings account (HYSA). Follow the maintenance program, changing your oil every 6,000 miles, keep up with your filters air/cabin, keep tires balanced, and you should be just fine.
