E89 Z4 Glovebox and airbag cover removal
Hello,
I am hoping if someone here could help me with this. I am in the process of removing the glovebox to replace the blower resistor. I have removed all the screws and the glovebox is currently hanging but it seems the airbag cover is holding up the glovebox. Anyone know how to remove the glovebox airbag cover? Thanks |

Unless I'm very much mistaken the glovebox has nothing to do with the airbag. The airbag is mounted to the underside of the dash and the glovebox is mounted below that with a number of screws under the lip of the dash fascia, one screw behind the end plastic panel by the passenger door, and then one into the edge of the box near the centre console and one by the lid dampener also into the center console section. You will also need to remove the three screws that hold the kick panel in the passenger footwell, and then you can lower the whole box clear of the dash and then pull it forward. Watching out the the glovebox light wire and (if you have it) the 12v acc socket underneath (it's on the kick panel). Hope that helps?

glove box removal
I would love if someone posted a video on how to remove the glovebox. I removed all the screws needed. At least I think I have and I also removed my dvd in the glove box, light, and acc plug. However it seems there is something still holding the glove box in place. Something or some screw is holding the lower left corner where the knee air bag is located. I just cant see any screws holding it in place. Anyone have a clue on this?

Wanted to do this job, i have a leaf or something making a cricket noise on lower setting.
Problem with car is that there is no screen on the air inlet at bottom of windscreen. Leaves can get into pollen filter and if not all removed on filter replacement can get to the fan. Last edited by bigendbob; 06-19-2023 at 06:42 PM.. |

There is one screw back there under the airbag cover. On my 2012 I found that it is necessary to remove the knee airbag first. It mounts through a cavity in the bottom of the glove box assembly, so I had to remove and unplug it to get the glove box out. There are 2 screws (10 mm socket wrench) holding it in place. Also, the connector for the glove box light is not very strong (mine broke off), so remove that light, from inside the glove box, before removing the screws along the upper edge of the glove box.

Air Bag mounts through glove box
A couple pictures of removing the airbag before removing the glove box. Note that the airbag cover is part of the airbag assembly, so don't try to remove it.
