Did this mod today. Dead easy thanks to all the good tips here. Those positioning tabs break off so easily you would almost think some friendly BMW engineer designed it that way to let us do this mod!

I'm doing mine right now and I would recommend that you dremel the tab down a bit deeper than the surrounding tape as you will need the adhesive foam to make a good adhesion without the remnants of the tab holding the plastic off the body. Hope that makes sense..

If you look closely at the tab you will see the it is pre-scribed below the surface of the tape. It will break off at the line just like a piece of sheet rock. But if you want to be OCD - about it dremel away.

Didn't expect the end to stick out 1/8 of an inch from the body. Even after holding it in place for quite a while, the plastic sticks out. see pic.
Anyone have this problem? BTW just on the left side so far, doing the right now. |

Posted too quickly.
On further inspection a small section of the white tape covering didn't come off with the rest on install. I was so focused on getting the left hand side aligned correctly (as read in earlier posts) i didn't pull the tape till the main body was almost set. Lesson learned, right side went great. Great mod. Kept the chrome for now as I'm Deep Sea Blue. Goes well with badge and the 35i but i'd like to see picts if someone paints it the color of the 296's with Blue. How to's were well done. thanks to all. |

Blu_Yea, Did you fix the end that sticks out 1/8 of an inch from the body after you figured out you left the small white tape?
