Btw, silly question: how do I know when my car's battery needs replacing? It doesn't have a 'status window' I had in my old car so I have no idea. Any warning signs before the car's battery dies? |

Got a notification for my vehicle last week. Heading in for the fix next week. Apparently it's a 3 hour job! Lots of re-wiring to fish through from the rear to the front. Tempted not to do it given I've not had an issue, but with my luck, something will happen if I DON'T do it....!

Ok, recently got the recall and got it fixed as well. I'm going to start my car the normal way (press brake, then press start button) to see if I no longer need the 'T-Fix' to circumvent the HVAC prb. I'm really hoping that this battery wire glitch recall is the source of this and the various other electrical prbs.

Occasionally, throughout the winter as my car would sit for a couple weeks without being started. A couple times when I started it, the clock needed to be reset. No other symptoms.
Does anyone know exactly what the fix is? Battery cable connector, fuse connector, pre-manufactured cable assembly with connectors? My dealer said that my car was affected and that they were ready to do the recall immediately (last month). Like the HPFP, I'd like to know going in, exactly what parts to expect and verify. |

Anyone had this done yet? I'm wondering if they will dismantle enough of the trunk to find my SmartTop module? Not looking forward to having to R&R that...hopefully won't have to.

Thanks for the info. From what I surmise. They are removing the cable, replacing a connector on it, and reinstalling it as a new part # 61-12-9-312-133 . I tried to locate this part on http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E8...tion_box_rear/ but it doesn't show up so I gather it's a new part number replacing either 61 12 9 189 850 or 61 12 9 165 850. I do wish the recall technical instructions were more available but for sure, this forum is the next best or thing. ... and in many ways better since there's no substitute for actual experiences.

Complete Power Failure: SI B61 08 11
Here's a couple links to 15 pages of e90 board and 5 page thread from 2011.
The tin connection has been replaced with silver since 2011 and these earlier build date cars have had either scary symptoms or nuisance issues. I received my recall yesterday and am going to pre-inspect my front fuse box and corresponding cable connection for discoloration to prepare for this trip to purgatory. Apparently the repairs range from replacement of front fusebox and the entire cable run to the trunk with carpet and seat removal (ugh) down to just short cable run at the fusebox from firewall. I know my symptoms I experienced of brief shutoff/stutter at idle or while cruising and computer settings reverting to default, such as 3 click turnsignal and self locking drive away doorlocks are now going to be resolved. 15 page thread since Feb2013: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=804545 5 page thread since JUNE2011!! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=549735 http://bmwtis.com/tsb/attachments/B6...Attachment.pdf

Dang, got mine in the e-mail today and just put the smart top back in after getting some warranty work and maintenance done.
Only takes about 10 minutes to pull it out. Maybe I'll wait a bit to see if something else comes up. Assuming there is no expiration date on the recall and it can wait till fall.

I had this done recently, however today, I was cleaning up the z after storage and was scrolling through the iDrive and found a ton of added features (which are non-functional by the way). They obviously updated the software with features from a newer model, which don't work, sadly because there are some pretty nifty looking new features! Took some pics, hopefully they load up ok had to resize them. I posted here, because prior to the recall, these features didn't exist, so presumably, were done after the recall work. Funny though, didn't mention anything about a software update on the work order.....

Just had my Z recall done today while the the car was in for mainteniance and warranty service.
Besides putting 2 scratchs on the bumper and trunk lid, in the clear coat, all went well. I am making The dealer fix them tomorrow. I hate having some one else touch and work on my car.

Also just had this recall performed on my wifes 2009 Z4. Three hour job, replacing firewall to fuse box wiring. Everything seems to be o.k. Never experienced any issues prior to this but the car only has 10K miles on it.

They offered to reflash for free obviously, BUT...I said no because whatever got installed addressed an issue I was having with my android phone. Works like a charm now (had to do with a missing bluetooth MAP protocol). In any case, I think it makes the car sort of 'unique'....and no....the spirit of ecstasy 'lady' doesn't pop out of the hood....although that would be SWEET if it did! Dave p.s. you're right...it's definitely NOT the updated idrive version (4.2.2?), not even remotely close.
