Question about Comfort Access - Trunk?
I'm trying to decide if I need Comfort Access on the car, as a car with all the options + color combo that I want has come up... minus comfort access.
So I know Comfort Access allows you to lock/unlock the car by just touching the handle. Additionally, you can start the car using the Start/Stop button without first inserting the key. However, I looked through the manual and couldn't find the answer for opening the trunk. If I don't have comfort access, would I need to use the remote (hold the trunk button) to open the trunk? Or could I just lift up the emblem and pull. Does this only work if the car is unlocked? If so, what if I have comfort access? Could I just left the emblem or would the car need to be unlocked first as well? Thanks for the clarification! |

No you wouldn't. Comfort access allows you to twist the badge on the boot, key in pocket, to open the trunk (boot for us Aussies).
Its an awesome little feature but shouldn't be a deal breaker if everything else stacks up. Hope that helps. |

Comfort access is phenomenal. It's one of my favorite things about this car.
check this thread out for more non-comfort access info |

It would have been nice to have comfort access so the roof would tilt out of the way when the trunk was opened, but I personally think that is a minor feature and I wouldn't hold up an otherwise good deal because of it. (I didn't when I got my car)

Ok comfort access though good is not a deal breaker, I can put my key in the slot and press the button its ONE more thing to do. Besides if you get smarttop (and every z ower should you get this option added back in for the trunk anyway.) Not to mention the other 10+ options that comes with the module.
The car that I wanted came up also without comfort access, its really overhyped if you get a smarttop module. 90% of the time i am gong to put the windows/roof down while i am getting to my car so i will have to use my key. Comfort loading option via smart top http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2YvNqTP0RQ Smart top all other options. (with the open/close while driving u can adjust the speed threshold, since the top cant handel too much speed suggest making it below 25km to bee on the safe side.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmcyoJ6xRc0 |

SmartTop is pretty cool, but kind of expensive at $360.

Except I already have remote mirror folding and door unlock on key removal, courtesy of coding, which was done by a friend for free

wish SmartTop had a new update their firmware to allow us with the new top mechanisms to actuate the top above 25mph since from factory it can handle 35mph.
for me Comfort access is what I missed on my 1er especially since my wife would always brag about her no keys required to lock or unlock her G... just leave the fob in your pocket/purse. |

If it were me buying again I would hold out for comfort access, no doubt about it. Having the SmartTop takes away some of the disappointment, but not all. I can't tell you how many times I get in the Z4 & push the button like I do in my Nissan or my wife's Toyota and THEN remember to have to fish the key out of my pocket to start the car.
I often carry things in the trunk, so the CA-like luggage loading features of the SmartTop are key for me. But even that isn't as good as the trunk loading feature I had on my SL600; the top was out of the way in seconds. Of course, everything else on that car was a decade behind the times, which is why I'm much happier with the Z4. |
