I have the PSS and love them. Going from RFT to non-RFT makes for a completely different car and these tires have excellent characteristics all around.

Pilot Super Sport on 18" wheels, Z4 35i w/ manual gearbox.
Absolutely love those tires. Turned the Z4 into a proper sports car.

When I put them on my 335i, the ride was less harsh, the handling was more connected and more precise and traction was improved compared to the stock RFTs. It's not a huge difference, but noticeable and worth it. If your RFTs are nearing the end of their lifespan, switching to non-RFTs could definitely be a good move.

we are running the PSS on 19" VMR 710s. 235/35 and 265/30 I think. these tires are awesome and they did truly transform the car - more comfortable, better steering response, very very sticky, etc. everything is better and it depresses me that BMW insist on handicapping their "sports cars" with RFTs. anyway you put it, the Z4 is an enthusiast's car and it should have had proper tires on it from Day 1. even if I am stranded by a flat tire while I use the SOS system to get a tow I will still be glad I switched!

you are probably right since BMWNA squawks about anything that can save them a dime at the customers expense - this is not unique to BMW in this challenging business climate of 2012, just a fact. however, even if I have to pay for the tow I will not care because RFTs are a joke on a sports car and they transform the Z's handling - worth every penny. I would love to shod the iS with a set of PSS and then "re-do" the head to head with the new Boxster S.

Yeah, my dealer squawked a bit when I traded my 335i with PSSs in.

I barely made it to the the tire shop, which was 3 miles away, and did so by extremely overinflating the tire and driving slowly. I've been very hesitant to switch to a non RFT without a spare after this experience. |

If they are still on the car if/when I trade it in and all the dealer has to squawk about tires they know are better than the OEMs, then I'll know they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for a negotiation point. Reminds me of the time back in 2007 when I was selling my 2005 350Z Roadster. The potential buyer said the car was too clean for him. So I told him I'd throw some dirt in it for him if that would help, but the price was still $31k. I knew he ran out of negotiating power with a comment like that. He walked away, but then called me back 2 weeks later, and bought the car for...............$31k Last edited by 35iDriver; 07-22-2012 at 10:11 PM.. |

Anyone go from a 17" RFT to an 18" non RF? I'd kinda like to step up to the 18" but am hesitant due to increased harshness of ride, but maybe going to a non RF will be somewhat of a wash?? (as far as "comfort" is concerned)

I'm limiting myself to only 1 upgrades at a time for the next 6 months, so if you are to choose, which of the 2 upgrades would it be:
1. ESS tune or 2. Swapping the RF tires with Michelin Pilot SuperSport I'm thinking that the ESS tune is worth more the fun. |
