HPF FMIC "Out for Delivery!"
Waiting for UPS truck like a kid on Christmas eve.
Wheels chocked. Car on front pads with jackstands. Contingent support under front wheels. Removed undercarriage tray. Removed skid plate under FMIC. Just two clips and two screws next to drop the OE FMIC. Waiting for UPS before final steps of removal. stay Tuned....Pun intended!

Well, UPS delivered the intercooler at 2:15pm and by 4:30pm I was test driving.
3 back to back 20-80mph runs has sold me for life on the value of upgrading the intercooler. Never have I seen 10 degrees over ambient intake air temps or felt the power stay on through 3rd/4th gear pulls, especially back to back. Easy install in the driveway on jackstands, alone. Great product.

Great write up, thanks.
I'm thinking of getting the same but want a hassle free install. Was it easy to install? Did you needs any additional parts? Which option did you choose from the HPF website? Thanks Last edited by The_Hulk; 05-04-2012 at 06:57 AM.. |

I selected the polished unit with factory c-clips.
Install is easy. Easier than 335i due to more room inside our bumper cover for the unit eliminates required trimming demonstrated in the install video on HPF website. Show care for seals on the factory plumbing when you insert into the receiving couplings. I wiped some oil onto the intercooler couplings to assist/assure connection step didn't foul that seal integrity. Factory c-clips at that interface are idiot proof only if you visually confirm the plumbing is seated into the IC coupling before engaging the c-clip. If you don't hold boost, the only hassle will be dropping the undercarriage tray again, 666 fasteners to pull, and resetting the seat correct. Have no fear... except for the quality of your jackstands and safety when groveling under a car. You will Love the Power.

It's a nice intercooler and all but they are asking WAY too much for a FMIC.

You can say that again!
Price point has no effect on me after I succumb to engineered design accommodating OE connections mixed with market supply and demand at work with a dash of racerboy branding and the omnipotent dyno sheet. I tell my fellow M3 friends that if the gas pump had a choice with an M emblem selling for $10/gal we'd buy it. Look what I'm talking about, I already pay $9.10 for 100 octane.
