Arrow 2013 BMW Z4 LCI Facelift is Coming (Spied)

BIMMERPOST NEWS
2013 BMW Z4 LCI Facelift is Coming (Spied)

COMMENTS

The Z4 LCI refresh may be a bit overdue, but these first photos of the refreshed Z4 show us that it's on its way.

The photos reveal that the LCI will be more of a "lightlift" than a facelift. The only changes come to the side fender gills and the lighting elements inside the headlights and tail lights. Their shapes will not see any changes. The headlight's angel eyes are brighter LED and we can expect some updated lighting accoutrements underneath the masking. The tail light's light bars receive a more contrasted look, as the 2013 7 Series LCI did.

We expect the Z4 LCI to hit the market early next year.

It now has a sad face instead of an angry one.

So hopefully that means we'll be able to retrofit the lights, then?

Not really a big change, ie one that makes you want to swap your car for...that's a shame, but good too maybe...

I was talking about the lights, not the bumper. I thought they'd changed the shape slightly, but must be just the camo.

Only current E89 will be able to spot the difference, so I suppose the purpose of this "facelift" is to make us feel bad we're driving around in an older model. Mission failed.

I'm interested to see what they've done on the side near the roundel for the indicator. Always thought the white plastic there was a let down.

Considering I own a 2010 model, I am glad it is a light facelift. Plus, the car is about the most perfect design to come out of Munich in a decade (I loved the M/Z Coupe).

It looks like the taillights get the Blackline treatment that the F01 LCI got -- darker surrounds and inlays for more contrast with the curvy light bars.

Can anyone explain why they need to do test drives for updated light clusters ?

Probably because it is standard practice to field-test all parts. Consider that a poor fitting, wear-prone, or noisy part might only be exposed in a real world test.

Also, I suspect that they will replace the N54 in the 35i with the N55. So that will need to be tested (although the car in the picture appears to be a four cylinder N20 model). It remains to be seen what will become of the 35is model.

+1 They probably did some suspension tweaks too as they have gotten a lot of flak for it being too soft.

Personally though I think it looks better with the yellow halos. I think it makes it look more aggressive.

Z4 sDrive35is will become Z4 M35i so as the X1 M35i and X3 M40i might become.

Garage List
2012 BMW Z4  [8.50]
The fronts looks real high compared to the back, looks like there are no wheel gaps in the rear.

Curious how they'd change the fender too, I really want to get rid of that white indicator. Other than that, I wish they at least tweaked the front fascia a bit.
