Another red boost pipe oil leak..

This was spotted a few weeks ago when it was serviced, they cleaned it up and asked me to come back in 500 miles. Of course the leak is there:

The dealer said: "Diagnosed as breather required, also requires replacement boost pipe seal. Will require oil top up."

Couple of q's:

Whats the breather?

Think I read recently that they had this repalced under BMW ext warranty already? The dealer is checking if the seal is covered, as it could be a scheduled servicable item (and if so its excluded). I really dont think it is, as surley it would have been repalced in the 4 years the car is old??

The breather pipe is the one that runs along the oil filler cap and down into where the red pipe meets - I will try to find pics

No I didnt replace mine, I had a quick look and it was dry. However as per jimmy's advice I used a jubilee clip to secure the breather pipe in place

It's the BMW extended as my cars is now 4 years old. Was thinking about cancelling it last year didn't need to use it at all...guess it will cover the cost this time.
