E91 vibration

Hi

First post on this excellent forum.

I have a vibration coming from the back of my 06 E91 that occurs around 80mph, in 5th/6th gear and when on or off the throttle. It is not a massive problem, the wheels have been balanced (twice). It has been suggested that it could be the prop donut, but when I looked at it yesterday, it appeared to be in good condition. Any other ideas? Car has done almost 90k

Thanks.

I had the same on an A4, and even after balancing the wheels, it was still there.

It only disappeared when I needed some new tyres and chucked the rears on the front and then fitted a set of part worns (the car was being sold a week later) to the rear.

Problem solved! Was never sure if it was a dodgy tyre or unbalanced wheel that caused it (even though they had been re-balanced!) but having two different tyres on the rear sorted it.

Does your car have the staggered setup (ie: rear wheels larger than front?) - if not might be worth swapping the front and rears over and see if that cures it. At least you will know it is defo a wheel/tyre issue then or something mechanical and more serious (read more expensive )

Not many places will have the kit, but it is a transponder pickup and a machine that spins the wheel.

Balances the hub/driveshaft/wheel and brake assembly too.

Used to have one at the garage I used to work in years ago, was a super bit of kit. Not cheap.

This is an on-car wheel balancer machine.
