Shuenk N55+ Turbo w/ BM3 2H Tune

Hey I wanted to pull the trigger on a Shuenk n55+ turbo but was told by Shuenk I can’t run the turbo on any OTS tune due to “overboosting”. I read here on the forums that BM3 says that the 2H map was for any upgraded turbo setup. I was planning on getting a custom tune later on when I get a stage 2 hpfp. I was hoping he wasn’t familiar w the OTS 2H tune and maybe was talking about a regular stage 2 tune. Any input on this would be great. Thanks!!!

Are you PWG or EWG? If you are EWG you should be a able to run the OTS map until you get a custom tune. If you are PWG you will need a custom tune. The PWG that comes on the turbo works opposite of the stock PWG. The Stock PWG is open by default and closes to manage boost. The one that ships with the turbo is closed by default and opens to manage boost.

That makes sense. I emailed pro tunning freaks b4 ur reply. They’ll probably say the same. Didn’t know there was a difference in pwg types. Yes I’m pwg btw. Are you familiar w the n55+ turbo from shuenk and do you have any opinions on it? Thanks for the quick reply and help!!!

I would get the Pure 750.

It's been proven, and it works with BM3 stg 2H OTS maps, I ran PS2 on them and made 420AWHP/438AWTQ on 93 OTS, and 400AWHP/435AWTQ on 91 OTS.

Ran this setup for about 80k miles on the turbo without issue.

I considered this but the price difference is significantly more w pure 750. Im not looking to keep the car forever just trying to have some more fun with it. Also not looking for crazy hp numbers. From what I’ve heard the Shuenk is supposed to have stock like low end spool w good power up top. Falls in between ps2 and pure750. For me that’s great. It would be good if I could run the 2h bm3 map on it but another $600 for a custom tune won’t kill me. Idk how good/ reliable Shuenk is as a company but for the price it’s hard to resist. I know Pure has a great reputation though. Thanks for the recommendation I’ve thought about even ps2 but was told this set up was better so idk.

I have a Shuenk turbo on my n26 with a custom tune by Navardi. This setup added power without sacrificing low end torque too much. Like you, I wasn't looking for huge hp numbers, just looking to make my car more fun to drive without sacrificing reliability. At least for my setup, the custom tune made a big difference and really made the most of the upgraded turbo.

I realize I have a different engine, but hopefully the above is helpful.

How’s the reliability been? How many miles have you put on it? Thanks for your opinion idk much about Shuenk so anything helps.

I dont think anyone PWG or EWG has managed to make the Pure750 run properly yet.

I had 3 different tuners and +100 revisions on my PWG Pure Stg2 to make that run acceptable.

The only tuner that seems to have mastered the PWG (of the "internet tuners") is David Shoup.

That’s crazy to me because I remember HCP having PWG customers in the 530whp range on e30 back in 2018. Must not have been a lot of platform development since?

Mustang Dyno read lower than Dynojets by around 8-10%

True, But that pure750 setup should be making 575-595 on the Mustang Dyno.

pretty sure you're talking about the m235i. Watched the video and I'm assuming they didn't turn it up since the car is meant for the curvy tracks and not the drag strip....

It's also a mustang dyno, and he's on full E85 which will make less power than with gas mix.

So it looks like BigBoost and SteelTech are the 2 big players with the N55. The CTS turbo likes to split the manifold, and the P750 just sucks. Sucky

Some guy w/ a Shuenk N55+ turbo in a 535xi ran a 10.9 on draggy 1/4 mile. Shuenk n55+ turbo is looking like a solid choice for under 2k. A lot of ppl claiming 500whp+ w upgraded fueling. I’m Installing mine after the holiday so I’ll let u know how that goes.

Bigboost and speedtech are the full frame guys. CTS has had previous issues, their new manifold is supposed to fix the issue. The pure750 is better than the ps2 which is proven to make 600+...

I’m surprised this hasn’t been linked for the pure 750 on a built block.

He also ran E70, and had some weight reduction, and some hardcore custom tuning for trans and tune.

You should really read up on his entire list of mods so you don't disappoint yourself when you wonder why you can't run the same as him.

People like to hate pure turbos, but they have the most data, and dyno and dragy to prove their turbo works.

If you see Shruenk FB page, they barely have any data, people just post more virtual dynos than real dynos or dragy.

To be fair for everything this turbo is rather new, the pure 1 and pure 2 has been out for nearly a decade it seems. I believe the pure 750 is maybe 1 year in as it was released in Jan '23. This Shuenk turbo has been shown to make 500whp or so but I have yet to see higher. It's been advertised as a budget way to make 500whp without spending the pure turbo tax.

For example from x-ph website:
pure stage 2 is 2795 with you sending in your stock turbo
pure 750 is 3195 with the silicone inlet

Shuenk N55+ is 1600 before shipping direct. $500 rebate when you share data logs and results which make this a cheap way to make 500whp if you have the supporting fuel mods.

for the cost it appears the revised manifold version of the CTS Boss turbo is the way to go as its been shown to make 580whp on e50 and is only 2400 at the time of commenting. otherwise upper 500s or more full frame setups should be utilized.
