I've been having this really loud chirping noise coming from my 2014 BMW 435i engine bay.

https://youtube.com/shorts/7ir4NdDjtpY?feature=share

Log:

https://www.bootmod3.net/log?id=628e...90c66acda607a7

For some insight I've been having this problem for a few months now. It only happens during cold starts but after a few minutes of driving it goes away. While idling it will slightly misfire as well.

A few hundred miles after the noise started my cyl 6 injector blew and after it was replaced the noise went away. After a couple months the noise came back. I assumed it was the injectors again so replaced the remaining 5 but the chirping is still there. Although, I used to experience fuel cuts while on throttle but since replacing all the injectors it has went away.

I asked my mechanic for some info and he's saying it's possibly the hpfp or fuel rail. I upgraded my hpfp to a xdi-35 a few months prior so I'm a little stumped. If any of you N55 owners have had this problem help will greatly be appreciated. This chirping sound has been driving me nuts.

Car Modifications:
Injen cold air intake
Vrsf catless DP
Vrsf chargepipe
Upgraded intercooler
Upgraded HPFP XDI-35
Bm3 Stage 2+ E30
~100k miles driven

Maintenance:
- Replaced spark plugs -2 step colder
- Replaced all 6 Fuel Injectors
- Replaced whole cooling system
- Haven't replaced fuel rail
- Haven't replaced ignition coils

Chirping noises often comes from hpfp. I think dorch have a fix for this via software.

Also ditch the colder plugs, and put oem Bosch ZR5TPP33. No need at all to run colder plugs.

Yes and yes, although not sure dorch fix will apply to your HPFP

Heard that some people got rid of the chirping with a custom tune that changes rail pressures at idle compared to OTS tunes.

And sorry for my double quoting.. cannot figure it out😂

Thanks! My mechanic was telling me to either go back to a stock hpfp or get a dorch stage 2. Which option do u think I should go for? I'm only running E30 and don't think I'm gonna run higher ethanol in the future.

I'm also wondering why the chirping went away when I replaced my cyl 6 injector but when it came on again, replacing the remaining 5 injectors didn't work.

If you are not planning to run more than e30 a dorch stage 1 would be enough to run with. Bootmod maps does give the hpfp quite a beating

Did you try running higher ethanol %? the 2+E30 map usually likes around E50 anyways.

Did you email BM3 and ask them if they have any updated HPFP config?

You wont be able to run 2+E30 map with stock HPFP.

I've switched to Stage 2 ACN91 a few times but the chirping is still there.

I see. So is it just an XDI problem then?

Both spool and dorch could suffer from the chirping sound. Solved with a custom file, try to reach out to xdi and ask. I know dorch gives you a file for free

Yes.. Like i said most people do E40-50 on the 2+ E30 map (with no flex fuel). The map just likes more ethanol - you can tell by fuel trims and timing. Just log it.

So I emailed XDI and they said they do have a fix for this problem but I would need to spend about another $300 to upgrade to their EVO pump. I'm guessing they don't have a file fix like dorch does.

A few XDI-35 guys run the Dorch Stg 1 HPFP checkbox to make the chirping go away.

Just select Dorch Stg 1 under HPFP in the Config for whatever map you’re running.

Overall, XDI/TTFS have crap programming (and tunes) for the XDI-35, so I wouldn’t give them another dollar.

If you try it, go easy as first then post up some logs if your car runs fine. It worked for a couple guys I know.

I see. I'll probably give that a try. XDI is making me ship my hpfp back to them and they said it'll take 2-3 weeks to finish. I should've went Dorch in the first place

Dorch hasn't publicized it or updated their website numbers, but I helped them with some HPFP programming testing to get more flow thru their Stage 1 N55 HPFP.

I don't know the exact % increase, but based on the (RAM) HPFP Angle (Final) parameter in BM3 it increased from 109 to 126. IDK know if that means a 15% bump or not, but it provided enough headroom for my car to hit 494whp on E50 in the winter time. BM3 pushed out that update to everyone a couple months ago.

Not bad for a Stage 1 pump!

So I tried it out and the chirping went away. Haven't had time to log it but I drove it around the block and everything seems fine. Only thing I noticed is that it idles higher at 600 rpm. Thank you!!!

So, I don't have any long-term data on using the Dorch setting for the XDi pump, so hopefully it doesn't kill it somehow. The guys I know doing this haven't had issues to-date, but don't get mad at me if something crops up!

I guess if it does die, you can go Dorch hardware & software then, not just software.

How long have they been doing this? I'm probably gonna keep this setting until I save up some money for dorch.
