235/45-18 MPSS tires on stock 18 inch front wheel
The time has finally come to ditch my RFT's on my 335i M Sport for Michelin Super Sports.
Nobody has the 225/45 front tires in stock though and I can't wait any longer so I decided to go slightly wider for the front and leave the rear at 255/40. The overall diameter will only be 1.4% larger. It might even help make the front end less bouncy when you have extra cushion. The suspension seems to have been designed for the 228i as the weight of the front end can be felt way too much. I just ordered the tires at Costco and they will be doing the swap and want to double check with the wisdom on here that I am not making a mistake and ask if there is anything else I should do. 1. Does anything else like camber need to be adjusted to properly set up the car with a wider tire? (Although much better than other shops, I am not sure the guys at Costco are very used to fitting non-OEM sizes on performance cars and they might overlook something). 2. Is anyone running this setup? What do you guys think are the pro's and con's other than what I mentioned? I don't care about the looks but wear, handling, and feel are important to me. 3. Any objections to Costco doing this work? I have heard mostly good things but on less complex jobs. Thanks guys! |

Make sure they use Road Force-brand tire balancers, else you could run into vibration issues. If they don't have one, go somewhere else.

OK, will do.
Also, will ASC kick in thinking that the slightly faster spinning rear tires are slipping? I would assume that 1.4% size difference up front would be small enough to fall within the tolerances but I can't find any information on those. That is probably my biggest concern now aside from possible loss of precision in steering feel with with too much rubber between the rim and asphalt. |
