Smart Top Function For 25 cents

If your z4 has comfort access package. You can walk away from car as the top goes up. windows and doors lock. No need to stand there like an idiot.

exit your z4 with top down. remove key from remote. use clip so that it covers bmw symbol on remote (lock) then just drop it on floor of car or back of seat and walk away. Remember to take actual key with you for entry later. Simple method. It does the one function that i want most in that smart top device. Save Hundreds

So how does it work for people who open/close with the fob in hand 10+ft away? I can't get it to open/close without standing next to it.

You can't spare 20 seconds to close the roof, but can waste time doing all of that? Really!!!

You pull the key clip the remote and leave it in the car. Since the remote is in the car you just walk away

I can perfectly well in my 2011

My point is not understanding your obsession with wanting to walk away from the car while your top is going up and willing to leave your key in the car to do it.

While simultaneously being perfectly OK with having to manually unlock your car door with the metal key when you return and then fishing for the remote that is sitting somewhere on the floor.

I'm sure your insurance company would be really happy that you have left the remote in the car, just waiting for someone to break in and steal it!
Not sure on the US insurance companies but I know for sure if that happened here in the UK you wouldn't have a leg to stand on, and certainly not a car seat to sit on!!

Wow such negative comments on a simple hack you either agree or disagree with. I leave my car running while in the store. Leave top down all the time. I live in a nice area. I dont care. I lease my car and will have the new Z4 in 2019. I was simply curious if it would indeed work and it did. I use it on occasion and like it. I guess a smarttop module is useless than. Lazy bastard cant hold button for 20 seconds. Lazy guy cant fold mirrors. Lets just close this post and move on!!!

My 2011 had comfort access. I barely ever used it. I never saw the point. I'm 6ft 240lbs and never had an issue getting in or out of the car. so I simply opened and closed the top when I was in the car with it running as to not tax the battery too much.

The thing here is you've come up with a "simple hack" and some of us thinks its stupid, but YOU don't like the fact that we disagree with you, well tough, if you don't want the negative don't post! Simple!

And as for the idea of the SmrtTop, it is so much more than putting your roof up while you walk away.
Oh and while I'm typing I might as well tell you that after you've "dropped" you remote in the car with the clamp pressing the close button you are now draining the remote battery! Leave it long enough and it'll no longer work! Good luck with your idea!
