Closing The Roof With Remote
Is it possible to close the roof with the car key remote?
I can open it by pressing the 'unlock' button for a few seconds, but if the roof is already open, i can not close the roof with the remote. I have tried holding the 'lock' BMW logo on the remote, and the 'unlock' button. But both don't affect the roof when it is already open. I have a Spanish manual, and my spanish isn't so great, but as far as I understand it should be possible to close the roof with the remote. Any suggestions? |

According to the owner's manual, if you have the Comfort Access option you should be able to close roof by holding down the "lock button."
BTW, you should be able to download an english version of the manual through the Owner's Circle. |

So opening the roof with the remote is standard on every car, but if you wanna close it with the remote you need to pay extra? Seems very wrong |

Agree, doesn't make sense, sales material is not very clear in describing differences between standard remote and Comfort Access. There seem to be several added "convenience functions" included with Comfort Access, not well described in options material. Since this is a $500 option, more information is needed to learn "what you get" for this additional payout.

with CA you should be able to open (unlock) the doors, close (lock) the doors without a key, get in your car and turn it on and drive away without a key, and it should never allow you to lock the keys in the car. for convertibles it should allow you to open and close the top and give you convenience loading which tilts the roof up a little while it's folded to let you get at whatever you put in the trunk.

I have discovered that you have to be real close to the car for it to work, even with comfort access. 10ft (3 meters) away was too far.
I also have noticed that it doesn't like doing top up or down too many times without running the motor. It seems to take a lot of battery power. It has stopped midway, forcing me to get in the car, start the motor, and finish the operation.

I've noticed the same thing. I've only tried it twice but each time, I had to complete the process by getting into the car and using the console buttons.

I don't know if it's the same cause, but in my old Z4 you could put the top down remotely but if it lost the signal from the remote it would stop midway. You couldn't finish putting the top down with the remote, so you had to get in and start the car. The signal was so weak I'd put the key fob to my chin and open my mouth to get better reception.
Looks stupid but it worked. It seems in Europe you can put the top down on the new one remotely but in the US you need to have CA. |

Yep, I'm with the crowd above that found you have to stand VERY close to the vehicle to do this. Unless I'm showing the feature to someone, I just do it from the button inside instead of looking like a massive poser while standing next to the car watching the roof go up/down.

I think you need to have registered for the service etc before hand but isn't the locking/unlocking of your car by BMW all part of the service? Not sure if there are any special requirements though like car must have sat nav/iDrive or something. Or indeed if there's a charge for this (though I seem to recall it being free?). |

if you have CA you can't lock your keys inside... those of us without CA can lock the keys in the car BUT we can call BMW and have them unlock the doors.
here in the US we have that for four years, the dealership turns it ON for us. |

I might suggest you contact BMW and explain your Spanish owner's manual. Obviously a car sold in Spain would have that - but perhaps they would provide you with one in English. It might actually come in handy some time.

How are people getting on with the CA to the boot? I use it very occasionally and find it a real pain to get to work. 2 clicks holding the second click on the 'lock' button is how I think you are supposed to do it. I find it takes a good few attempts compared to the other functions.
Additionally half the time I set off the alarm - which is a single click and hold of more than a few seconds on the same button. It seems badly configured... Tamman69 |
