LOL Really??!!

The only bad news for me would be if I bought the Boxster with it's 13 year old body style and plain jane interior (yuk).

Nice try though. I hate to bust your bubble, but the new Z4 is not aimed squarley at competing with the Boxster on a track going 10/10th. I did enjoy seeing he Z4 zip past the Boxster like it was standing still, once they hit 2nd gear (in test #2).

I guess it would be bad news if we all wanted a car like the Boxster with an ancient body style that everyone basically yawns at now when they see it. 'Cause nobody be yawning at the new Z4.

Get your rebuttle posted soon, 'cause this thread won't last long.

It seems that in a shootout *on a track* the Boxster S wins and I will even admit that as a drivers car (i.e. one who likes to drive flat out and sideways on a race track), the Porsche probably is the better drivers car.

But for most here on the forum, it's more than just pure numbers and which car crosses the line first. Most will be driving their Z on roads for about 99% of the time and it's here that *I* feel the Z4 leaves the Boxster trailing. I mean, if we're honest, here in London, I can probably get from A to B faster on my mountain bike!

And besides I can't quite justify the GBP £8,000 differencethat they mention in the film.

Ultimately, it's all down to personal choice. I've driven both and whilst I do like the Boxster, a lot, I just like the new Z4 much more.

haha same here

and that video is OLD, and the boxers might be faster around a track, but the BMW is faster away from the lights, especially with launch control. Bmw looks beter, is more comfy...

and for god sakes its FIFTH GEAR, they suck so hard, its unreal.

The guys from Top Gear loved it!

They even said that if they had to pick 1 car, and it would be their last car ever, they would pick this new BMW Z4... i think that means something.

This is not news, and the vid has been out there for a while.

Magazine, ezine, video review, etc., bias in this area is tiresome. Everyone knows that just about every journalist (except Jeramie on Top Gear - LOL) all are pro-Porsche, and take BMW to task.

Porsches are purpose built, high performance sports cars, and BMWs are not. If anything, Porsche's Boxster performance was unimpressive considering it's weight advantage and higher cost.

Porsche didn't earn the "highest profit per vehicle" reputation for nothing - somehow they manage to keep milking the same old cow for over 40 years but at the same time convince the public they are buying a priceless piece of autosport heritage - very clever marketing at work here! Porsche knows it can't put its 911 TT engine in a production Cayman - why? because their mirage would turn into vapor and disappear into nothing.

The Fifth Gear review is put in context with the power-slide competition. Twaddle.

On the track: Boxster S has an edge.

In real life: no contest — E89 all the way.

I looked at the Boxster S. I found the pricing why high and the Chinese-menu approach to options bizarre. Easy choice.

look - if you want a Porsche, buy one; most on this site could have and we chose not to. yes, they are faster, ugly, boring, and less comfortable (according to my wife) - I love them but I also really like her Z4. i do agree with her that the Z has more features, is better looking, more comfortable, and still very sporty

I don't understand how this is bad news...

I can show you an $8000 motorcycle that will whip the shit out of both of these cars. Does that make it 'bad news' for them? I never bought it for its performance IRT anything else. No regrets here..

Oh yeah. . . talk about power to weight ratio! Very nice.

Gee, and we could talk about the space shuttle - isn't its escape velocity faster than a Porsche? It's all relative - I love bicycling and you ought to hear Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen carry on about the their break away speeds, what, top racer's 20 - 30 mph average speed, with 40 - 50 mph going down the mountain.
