Allergies and Pollen.

I read a report that it is going to be a brutal season, here at least.

When at the downtown Dallas Farmer's Market this weekend getting my veggies and fruits I ran across a hopeful combatant.

I bought a jar of local bee pollen. Area specific pollen is the key from what I understand.

It tastes like mud or a feed store smells. I learned to not eat it straight and now I am putting it in some liquid and downing it.

The vendor said about an 1/8th tsp for two weeks and about a third to a half after that everyday at the same time.

Anyway, I hope it works because I am sick and tired of chewing Clari-tin like Pez.

Anybody else using pollen?

Never heard of doing that. Will be in Texas in.... 4 weeks. I've heard a lot about the allergies down there... we'll see.

Why are you chewing Claritin? lol

I've been taking allergy shots since last May and the difference in my overall health is unbelievable. I recommend them to everyone.

It's been a while since I remember having a really bad pollen season, so we're due for it.

Not really chewing them. It was an exaggeration.

I am actually grinding them to snort.

I had an allergy shot years ago. "You will feel like a new man" sez the doctor.

I got sicker than I have ever been in my life. Maybe I got the wrong shot but I am not going back.

One shot isn't going to anything, except fuck you up like it did. It has to be induced in a regulated manor.

It suppose to be series of shots. I've heard everything from once a month to twice a week. I get mine once a week. It's been such a change that even friends and coworkers have noticed a difference in my mood and function.

Allergies are sensitivity reactions. The allergy shots are supposed to desensitize your immune system. Needs to be in a series as said previously. In "theory" the pollen will be helpful. Only problem is all the other crap in the air.

I've been taking Allegra for years now, as I get hammered from Alder pollen from mid February to mid April. It is so bad that it sometimes gives me asthma! Looking at the pollen forecast, Tuesday is not going to be a good day....

Lately the Allegra seems to be completely ineffective. I was on Claritin before, and it lost effectiveness. Then I switched to Allegra, and it seems to be doing the same thing. I guess I need to try Zyrtec now and see how that does.

That's unfortunate. Have you tried being retested by another allergist? Every doctor seems to have their own way of doing things and testing.

Probably built up an immunity to it. I really need to try something different. I can't take zyrtec because it makes me sleepy (which is funny as a kid when it was prescription only it didn't). It would be great if they finally made a non-drowsy pill.

It depends on what the doctor shot him with. Immunotherapy is a treatment course with multiple shots as you describe. A shot a week for three years to start with. However, his doctor might have given him a corticosteroid shot to try to help with the symptoms.

My allergist seems to think these shots are not worth it, but some other doctors think otherwise.

I have bottles of Allegra, Allegra-D and Claritin.

The "immune" thing may be in play because they don't really seem to do anything anymore.

I have been using the pollen for a couple of weeks now and I do feel better.

Yesterday at happy hour a buddy of mine and his gf sat down for a beer. He was red nosed and frig'n miserable. I told him about the pollen and he got on his Iphone and was out the door to go get some. He got back about 30minutes later. He went to the nearest listing and it turned out to be a private home and a lady in a moo-moo opened the door. She was a voodoo princess or some crap. She wanted him to come in and she would rid his allergies via a seance(sp)?.

He was so pissed. I felt bad for him but it was funny as hell at the same time. He is heading to where I got mine this morning.

Well, I've been taking OTC Zyrtec liqui-gels for the past week, and this shit WORKS! Quite happy with the results, although having a prescription so my medical plan pays for it would be nicer. Maybe the doc can still write the scrip....

It's pretty bad here in Florida. I'm glad I don't have allergies.

crazy picture.

I take shots AND allegra 180mg.... Never had allergies until after Hurricane Katrina, when I lived in New Orleans. Could have been the aftermath of the hurricane or the fact that I was turning 21.

Xyzal does the trick for me (prescription only). Walked out of the house this morning and my car was covered in pollen.

I swear by bee pollen, been on it for years. It is also great for cholesterol issues.

I get by fine with the generic version of Claratin. But I will look into that bee pollen thing. Sounds interesting.
