Looks like today is the day RBR admits their wrongdoing and accepts the ABA..."Horner has promised full transparency on the cost cap once there is a conclusion to talks." One can only hope (for the good of Formula 1) that the penalty fits the overspend.

I believe it will be a small fine and maybe 5-10% reduction in tunnel time (which isnt that meaningful especially with Newey).

If it's a meaningless penalty to RBR they will likely continue to overspend...and that would make the cost cap a joke...oh that's right, many fans here feel it is.

RBR seemed to be so ready to prove themselves by "taking it to court"...maybe it was a negotiated slap on the wrist.

My opinion is they did nothing wrong. If you're going to re-write rules on "spare parts" after budgets are submitted, then those "overages" should be negated/voided since they submitted in line with prior guidance.
The fact that an ex-MB GC was involved means they were likely targeted after seeing where the overage was. To me, the penalty needs to be handed to MB and Rao for the leaking of confidential info. Next year, they should also ensure those teams who have already said they were going to go over budget are severely penalized given it is premeditated.

Just reported; $7MM fine and reduction of 10% tunnel. Again, the wind tunnel time isnt really of significance since they have Newey and let's be honest, MB pod design was a huge success in the wind tunnel and look how that turned out.
FIA said "...no accusation or evidence that Red Bull has sought at any time to act in bad faith, dishonestly, or in a fraudulent manner, nor has it willfully concealed any information..." They also stated with the tax refund the overage would be $0.5M and none of the spend has anything to do with car development based on the synthesis they gave.

It's been put forth that RBR will take the "we're being persecuted" approach...looks like it's working.

No, you misunderstood. More than a few times in this thread RBR fans noted the wealth of RedBull and that a fine to them would be meaningless. It was those fans I referred to...not MB fans.

The wealth of RB is the same as that of MB and Ferrari (actually it's probably less, considering the rumoured budgets before the cost cap).
And I think you misunderstood; RBR fans noted that the fine would be meaningless because they think the extend of the breach is virtually meaningless.
There's a difference in there.
How extensive that breach really is, is up to the FIA to judge about.
And apparently they have done so, so we all have to find our peace in that.

Yes, I must of misunderstood those RBR fans. I took it that RBR's overspending was (to them) just business as usual...no big loss.

You don't find peace in the FIA's decision?

Peace? Not certain that's the applicable feeling. Felt certain if RBR accepted the ABA it would be because it would be a meaningless penalty...and that's what it turned out to be. I wanted them to fight it. The FIA made it a too easy decision for RBR. The feeling?...Not surprised.

That's a pretty long definition of butthurt if you ask me....

But in all seriousness, what would you have thought would be an appropriate penalty for the 1,6% breach?

Well, clearly you don't think the conditions of the ABA are appropriate or proportional.
Some would describe that feeling as butthurt

No that's not what I think. What I think is the amount of the penalty was negotiated down by RBR to a figure that they felt acceptable. If they had not been satisfied they would have gone to court...Horner almost guaranteed they would. Think it would be interesting to know what the FIA's first fine offer was.

It was likely in the FIA’s best interest since RB has a legit claim and the genesis of the rule changes along with the info and how it was leaked could have been all that RB needed, on top of being right.

Catering and gardening leave costs.

That is what all this ended up being.

Here are the 13 errors RBR made...additionally RBR was thanked by the FIA for graciously accepting the penalty.

Basically, nothing of significance, nor advantage in any way, shape, or form...even to the most hyperbolic of individuals.

Ultimately, I think RB saved the FIA some face in not pushing further because knowing the facts, it sure seems suspicious. Anyway, penalty seems, if anything, a bit of overkill.
