Tire pressure monitor malfunction

I have a 2011 z4 35i. It recently started giving me tire pressure monitor malfunction errors. I've done a lot of searching and can't find a specific solution. I checked the tire pressure, had it checked and reset by discount tire, had the sensors checked and of course, have tried myself to reset the system through iDrive. Unfortunately, none of it has worked. I figured the sensors are now 6 years old, so I had all of them replaced today. The system was reset, and the error is back again. Any suggestions? Does anyone know where the TPMS module is located?

You have a tpms antenna under the car

The error code should be pretty specific. What is the error?

The codes are:
604E: RDC: RDC system
6054: RDC: Wheel electronics, front left
6055: RDC: Wheel electronics, front right
6056: RDC: Wheel electronics, rear left
6057: RDC: Wheel electronics, rear right

I think it's unlikely that all 4 trigger transmitters went bad at the same time. So my thought process is that it's either the actual control unit, or the antenna.

I found the control unit tucked away under a bunch of wires under the passenger side fender panel in the trunk. I examined it and nothing looks bad on it, although that doesn't mean anything.

Next, after hours of searching under the car, using bad pictures from online repair manuals, I finally found the antenna next to the fuel lines under a black panel I peeled back from under the car. It's in the area under the drivers seat, but accessed from under the car. I disconnected it to see if it would change the codes, and got the following code:
6053: RDC: RDC aerial
I then plugged it back in, and that code went to "not present" status, or essentially went away.

At this point, I think it's the RDC control unit causing problems. I've read things online that if the RDC control unit is replaced, the car must be reprogrammed. I'm worried that reprogramming the car may not work because I installed the combox from bimmertech and I read online that someone else had that problem and the reprogramming couldn't proceed because according to the car's VIN, it assumed the original hardware would be there, but he never posted a follow up. If that's the case, I'd have to put the factory parts back in, remove the combox, take it to the dealership for reporgramming, then contact bimmertech and have them reprogram the car again for the combox.

A new RDC control unit is about $275 online. Then there may be more costs for programming, etc.

Any thoughts, experience, or suggestions?!

So the problem is solved. After replacing the RDC unit and the antenna, with no results, I did some research on the parts. It turns out that sometime around 9/2010, the TPMS was updated. Although my car is a 2011 model year, it was manufactured in 7/2010. So I went back to Discount Tire, had them look the sensors up as a 2010, had them swapped out, and the malfunction error cleared!

I know this thread is almost a year old but I have a 2012 Z4 28i with the TPMS warning sporadically showing up on my iDrive. This is literally the only post I could find on the internet for a Z4 TPMS issue. I'm hoping I can get a few more details on exactly where the module is. I'm planning on disconnecting it and coding around it based on other threads.

Can someone explain where exactly the module is. I know the OP says "I found the control unit tucked away under a bunch of wires under the passenger side fender panel in the trunk.". I'd like more details on exactly how I get to the module.

Thanks

Remove the trim panels on the passenger side.

Modules are located down in the well under the brake light area.

So changing out the sensors didn't fix yours?

I haven't tried changing out the sensors. I haven't priced them yet but I'm assuming they are going to be as much as the new tires and still a "temporary fix" that will only last as long as the batteries last. I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

I've started looking for the RDC module but it's a major deal to get all the trim moldings off to find it.

What program can i use to do the coding? Will bimmercode work? I've never done any coding before.

Having same problems with the following codes on 2011 X5 xDrive50i and ran across this post.
604E: RDC: RDC system
6054: RDC: Wheel electronics, front left
6055: RDC: Wheel electronics, front right
6056: RDC: Wheel electronics, rear left
6057: RDC: Wheel electronics, rear right

All after I put on new winter set of wheels/tires that came with TPMS that were to work with my 2011 BMW. I switched out the RDC with no success in eliminating the error as I didn't find it possible that all 4 wheel transmitters would fail at the same time.

My X5 was manufactured in June 2010 so looking like the new wheels were populated with the Gen 2 sensors versus Gen 1 of the early production year.

Local Discount Tire not agreeing with this and says the universal TPMS will work but even the vendor site states otherwise for the early 2011 production X5s.

If you are still out there Bstears, can you share the model number of the TPMS sensors that your Discount Tire installed that fixed the issue from their 2010 lineup?
Thanks for any additional info.

TPMS malfunction error resolved.

TPMS malfunction errors were resolved on my early production (6/2010) 2011 X5 xDrive50i with installation of BHS RDE040V21 on winter wheel set instead of BHS UVS4040 that are compatible with later 2011 and beyond E70 production.
FYI -- Detailed information here from TPMS manufacturer: http://www.products.intellisens.com/

I followed the instructions, took out the panels found 3 modules, in the well but none of them seems to be the tire pressure module. Please help.

Turns out tpms is under the car.
Along the driver side there is a plastic panel that covers the fuel line, brake lines,, etc..

Under that panel is the tpms sensor
