Virgil (signed his cartoons “VIP”) lived down the street from me when I was a kid, old enough to know who he was. Reclusive so never got to know him.

Vargas (I think that is the correct spelling) family opened a gallery near his home in SF (close to Castro district IIRC) that I visited about 15 or so years ago. Could have bought many of his full size pieces for what I thought were good prices, but had no place to hang them in my house. He did the airbrushed looking pin-ups in Playboy. That gallery may still be there, I haven’t been back in a long time.
