Talking Vanne's Habibi GCC 2012 Y61 Patrol build log

This is gonna need its own build thread.
Not massive plans engine wise, but lots of changes suspension and shock wise. Probable re-gearing, Desert dune basher/camping mods. It's an adventure family wagon.

So I bought this 2012 Y61 after selling my 2012 jeep JKU Sahara. Good car, fun off road, but just the frikking repair bills. Not sure where they get that Tonka tough rep from, because they are far far from that.

Anyways, here she is when I picked her up. Drove her to my shop where I am building my race car and chucked her on the lift. Poked around for a bit and though it looked ok. Couple things need taking care off, but I can do most of that myself. Bushes/exhaust drag arms etc. Couple of the exterior bits need attention and I'll probably source a new rear outer plastic boot bit as the bloke who owned it before me just bolted shit in through the plastic bubble outer skin.

The car has seen its share of off road time, and that's ok as the bloke has done a huge amount of pre and post maintenance. Mechanically aside from bushes it's pretty good.

Here she is when I went to see it for the first time.

Had a chat about the car and decided if it checked out mechanically, I'd found my new off roader.

Picked up the car the next day for inspection on a lift...

And found this.. not too bad at all, but allowed me to knock another 700 bucks Aussie off the purchase price.

So that's pretty good. Car starts like a champ. Diff housings are straight (that's a Biggie)

Brought her home after my flight and then got to work on stripping so much shit out of the car, and just de-cluttering it. Lots still to do. Need to get a new light bar as the one on it is ghetto. (Car is pretty ghetto too, that's okay as it's a dune basher

Pads are good. New licence plates and some insurance and then hit the desert for a test out.

So with that in hand, i started formulating in my head what was going to be needed..

* Full bushes kit for 2.5 inch lift, front and rear.
* Full fluids replacement
* Headers/ 3" exhaust
* Airbox
* Wheels/Tires.
* Android Radio.

Rip out the whole interior and start afresh.(well mostly)

and yeah lolol that above wasn't me.

Lolol, yeah I'll have my kids onboard mostly, so no jumping..

Ordered a complete offset 3," lift bush kit from Oz.
Also inbound are new drag links and tie rod ends. Steering damper I still gotta order.

Headers are on the way, FedEx recons on the 19th. Airbox arrived and looks like I'll need to fix up the snorkel entry under the hood. The hose that comes in from the snorkel into the hood has had the banana.

Cool airbox though..

Spent some time today messing about with the snorkel...

P.O. did it himself, I am not sure if it was like this when he first installed it, but really.. rather rubbish install. On the engine bay side, a huge hole able to injest quite a bit of hot engine air.. yeah, were not having that..

Stripped out the snorkel and started again.

I bought some silicon tube to sort the 90 degree bend, but turns out that part of the OEM intake will actually fit perfectly inside.. and it will be a watertight seal.

Pipe modded.. (pictured)

So this bit sits inside the left hand fender and connects the airbox to the snorkel.

And a few pics of the headers

This stuff is good for brake cooler ducting, not for engine air intake piping..

Steering wheel and a few other bits and pieces off to the upholstery shop for alcantara treatment. (Was also gonna do the dash, but it's still in good nick and you gotta draw the line somewhere)

Worked on the Habibi wagon the whole afternoon/evening last night, wanted to finsih up with the intake (snorkel) and the new airbox/filter.

Took me till 9pm, but got it sorted.. did the oblagitory bag over the snork test and that sucker sucks real hard, engine nearly dies and i gotta admit i was a bit worried the bag was going to suck into the snork.. so yeah thats a big positive..

not that the airbox took me all day/evening, i opened up the pandoras box yesterday buy tackling the aircon air box/cabin filter.... HOLY SHIT!!!!! ive seen lots of filthy evaporators in my time, but this took the frikking cake....

sadly, no pics, though i can get a few pics of the filter, and you can probably guess from there, but holy cows, it was filthy.
Now your probably wondering, wait up the Y61 doesnt have a cabin filter... and yep youd be correct, in OZ however, lots of people mod it anyhows, the GCC spec Y61 /does/ have a cabin filter.

anyhows, i previously bought a new set of filters as I ALWAYS replace the filter after buying a used car, clears up most smells straight away if you buy a used car.. anyhows, when i pulled the cabin filter and the state it was in, i had to investigate further. As the filter sits pretty much ontop of the evaporator, i got a tortch a looked inside...

man....

took me about 2 hours to clean the evaporator with a brush, and extended handle. and then proceeded to blow all the shit out with compressed air... shit went absolutely everywhere.. I would have loved to hang a hose in the eveporator, but as this car has carpet, thats a no go..

looked pretty good afterwards, and i havent test run the car yet, but id recon at least the flow is gonna be much much better.

Right, ill take a few pics of the intake installed.
