Well based on the fact that the X5/6M models are now confirmed with an upgraded version of the 4.4 V8-TT... perhaps BMW will just amp-up the I6-TT with more aggressive cams & boost and call it the Z4M. It would be a bit of a sell-out, but it may still happen!

Although there's no Z4M planned on the E89 platform it is strongly speculated that the M3 will move to a forced induction engine, most likely turbo charged and most likely a 6cyl. If that is the case then it may be possible for an M variant of the Z4 with the new M3 6cyl engine.
The other option is that they'll debut a new 6cyl M engine in the Z4M and then introduce it in the M3 with the next model. But right now that's all speculation and wishful thinking, there is no M version planned or even being talked about with any seriousness. |

i really dont undersatnd why ppl call it the Z4 M???
the real ///M cars always put M at front, like M3, M5, M6 if u call it Z4 M, then it sounds like a Z4 with added M pkg, just like the 330ci M, but is 330ci M a real ///M car? If it's real //M car, put the M first, either M Z4, or M roadster, M coupe, thats how u should call it. |

but it will be ironically that if there is an M pkg for the Z4. (just like the M pkg on the E46 330) Fortunally they didnt have that pkg. This is a conflict that some ppl may get confused with, "is 330ci M a M? or Z4 M is a Z4 with M pkg? lol this is just my personal opinion. Last edited by E89.35i; 01-11-2009 at 01:14 PM.. |

Man you guys get so uptight over moniker and technicality. If they make a Z4M, MZ4, M coupe I will drive it. Is it going to be fast, yes, it is going to be light and NA, probably not, but if I wanted something like that I would get an Exige/Elise or Caterham 7. I am sure many of you would too! Those who don't will enjoy more focus and dedicated cars from other companies.

It's funny how many people say, with any indication of authority on the subject, that the new Z4 will be this and won't be that. Just look at history to understand what BMW does and doesn't do.
For the first 3 years of its life, BMW publicly and repeatedly stressed that the E85 Z4 wouldn't be released in an M version. What happened? Rumors float around that the E85 Z4 would never have a V8 because it "doesn't fit". Don't tell that to AC Schnitzer, Hartge and Getrag, or any of the many race teams who build V8 powered Z4s. A V8 definitely fits. The only possible "doesn't fit" explanation could be that it doesn't fit in the way BMW needs to mass produce them (chassis drops onto drivetrain on the production line so the engine must fit entirely between the frame rails and firewall). BMW can put a V8 in a scooter if they wanted to, but it has to make money. So the question remains.. Will the E89 Z4 get an M version? Will it be a V8? I can answer all your BMW speculative questions right now!!! The answer is: definitely maybe. |
