Read this earlier. All this started because of smog compliance, but now... If your car passes smog, what is the problem after this? I think it will come down to right-to-repair, and worse, will spread to other states.

It won't spread to Florida.

You do not live in a desert naturally.

Everyone living in SoCal must move to the East or North and stop extorting the leftover water.
Or stop complaining about anything and everything.

That’s what i have read in some scientific magazine years ago.
Go figure…

From my experience, CA is ideal for car enthusiasts. It's the only state I've ever lived and owned cars in, but in 20 years of car ownership, I've never* been required to have any of my cars inspected, tested, or had any regulatory body dictate what I can and can't do. I've always modded them as I pleased to any degree I want. Half of them don't have cats.

Then you hear about annual inspections in flyover states where people scramble every year trying to swap their downpipes or ECU tune back to stock...yet CA sucks for cars?

*I said never, but that was until last year when I bought a used car for the first time. CA does require used cars bought from out-of-state to get a smog check.

What, the SnapCrap App, the $180k+ per year for each member of the “poop patrol”, or the fact that people go in and shoplift whatever they want with impunity didn’t have you convinced?

that does suck.

especially for guys with heavy mods like aftermarket turbos that require an aftermarket tune to run correctly and not throw codes. even if they have carb certified cats and puts out clean exhaust it will still flag due to the non oem tune.

He just buys/leases a brand new car every 5 years or so. Cars don't require smog until year #6.

It's not a problem, just throw the stock tune back on, you won't get any codes.

My car is full FBO+(inlets, outlets), Flex fuel with hybrid turbos and I have no issues with smog, I just put on stock down pipes and flash back to stock, I pass smog with no issues.

CA has its quirks and it’s share of problems, but the hate it gets is just laughable. There’s a reason it’s one of the biggest economies in the world and the most populated state… and people ain’t leaving in caravans. For all its frustrations there is still no other place to live like it, and bar none, it has the best car culture of any state even in spite of SMOG requirements.

Now do I have my issues with CA? Of course, as does every Californian, but I’m not under any false impressions of how great of a place it is to be. Don’t buy into the media hype about it being a wasteland

I just hope that the other state won't implement the same thing. I never dream of living in California because I find it expensive.

This law is going to be really annoying.

California is very far away from being a utopia but it's also miles better than the rest of the US. Why would California have the highest GDP and largest population if it sucked as much as the anti California crowd says it does?

would a stock tune still work if you had pure turbos ? aftermarket injectors ? cams? e92 stroker ? obviously you wouldn't be doing pulls or anything but idk how much the stock ecu can compensate for. i'm thinking of the 1000hp huracans, gtrs, and camaros out there.

Turbos wouldn't be an issue since the car won't know the difference at idle, as long as you aren't overboosting or anything and causing check engine lights or not allowing your monitors to set. Bigger injectors could be if they were dumping much more fuel than the ecu could compensate for. Cams and stroker cranks I'm not sure.

Sure, regulations are bad, but like stated, nothing a quick return to stock won't fix. And the roads in CA are better than anywhere else. I miss the roads as much as the weather. I'd move back in a second.
