I'd also like to know if there's anything official out there.
When I ordered my IS I started doing some rough math based on overall production numbers and percentages to try and figure out IS numbers. I don't have anything concrete other than I realized IS numbers are REALLY low - lower than I was already expecting. If anyone has anything more statistic/fact based by all means throw it up here... |

Go to home page www.bimmerpost.com and search there - saw sales data for all models on one of the main page postings a little while back.

Indeed, a few hundred (under 2000) for the entire run of the E89 model in the US. HOWEVER, huge grain of salt here, as this was 'loose' math at best and certainly nothing concrete or statistical. I'd call it anecdotal.

So far, 1740 cars have been built for the NA market. Can't tell you exactly how many were built for the MY2011 since the model is still in production and it will end production on 11/16.

Anyway, what I meant is that 35is is still in production and I don't get detailed stats until the production is over. By "detailed stats" I mean, colors, options, model year, etc. The only data I can provide right now is how many cars have been built. As of right now, BMW produced 1740 35is for the NA market. As for the 35i, the total is at just over 6700 |

Thanks for the clarification. If this is in fact true, then my original, non fact-supported assumptions were actually correct, IS rarity is going to end up right around E86 M Coupe rarity, if not just a few hundred over.

This according to Wikipedia are the production numbers. Seems like popularity of the car dropped steadily during its run:
2016: 4,432 2015: 7,950 2014: 10,802 2013: 12,866 2012: 15,249 2011: 18,809 2010: 24,575 2009: 22,761 total: 118,444 |

I did the math and it appears 9.115% of all North America z4’s were the 3.5is... and they only sold 1,187 in 2016... so by that logic roughly 108 3.5is were sold in 2016.

I'd say that other options that got refreshes came along (Porsche, MB, Miata...) that were more interesting. They also have been developing the new Supra, I mean z, for way too long and the wait for that probably greatly impacted sales the last ~2 yrs.

My dealer told me that they got no 35i's in 2016, that all of them were 35is's. It jives with what I saw on the lot of two local dealers that I routinely visit.
It may have only been like that in Canada. Not surprising as I have had last year models of other series arrive with many options standard that were normally optional. |
