2011 z4 top stuck up :(

While putting my top down, it stopped with the trunk standing open. It wouldn\'t move with either up or down button. The down button is red?

Is that "shelf" looking thing in the trunk snapped into place? It wont go down if its not.

Have you a "Smart-Top" module installed?

According to a German forum (the interesting posts start on page 7 with # 164), the manufacturer has confirmed that older models may disable the canbus and thus impair the roof mechanism due to voltage peaks. Apparently a transient voltage suppressor diode within the Smart-Top module may short-circuit the canbus causing a non-resettable poly fuse to blow.

However, it is told that this issue is remedied in newer modules (e.g. 1054-U v4).

Best regards

Mick

I had an issue once with a tall item ahead of the shelf. The top wouldn't drop all the way in and the trunk stayed up. The light flashed red and neither up nor down worked. I thought I was screwed. I shut off the car, restarted it and pressed "top up". It reversed and put the top back up. I resolved the issue with the item in the trunk and was able to put the top down. No issues since.

I had a similar issues once. I put a regular umbrella in the trunk with our luggage. The partition came down fine as did the roof. Once the roof started to exert pressure onto the partition the umbrella moved causing the partition to pop up. I wasn't able to move the roof up or down since the partition no longer had contact. I spent an agonizing 20 minutes trying to get the partition to snap back in which I finally did. This allowed me to raise the roof again. Since then absolutely no more umbrellas in the trunk!

It is often user error but not always. Mine got stuck halfway a few months back. A lady had rear-ended me gently in a traffic queue (she paid for new rear panel which was already scratched so it ended well!). It loosened some of the wiring you can see by the pivoting struts that move the mechanism. Needed a garage to fix it, a bugger to get to!
