It is funny though that BMW has adopted the same approach as many of these fake badges. The fake M badge on an X6 50i from a few years ago are now official when it’s basically the same car. … and I got a real M and no free plate… what a rip off! |

What I''m NOT ok with, even with higher end BMWs, is BMW giving M "lite" cars M mirrors, carbon roof options ( like on the M850) and, with the new X3, and option for dual exhaust. I think that's an excessive dilution of the M brand. They're almost at the point of the only differences being the engines and suspensions. 😡

M lite-lite + striped plate frames?
I recently got a '21 x3. It came with a few addons when it was new, including the M sport package that put a handful of M logos on the car (M wheels, M brake calipers, M steering wheel, M door sills, 'aero' kit etc).
A friend who owns an m4 he takes to a track got excited about it all, and was kind to gift me a few things including a pair of striped plate frames (just the stripes, no 'M'). I don't mind them, and he's mentioned he was looking forward to seeing them on the car. I don't want to seem ungrateful, but it kind of feels a little misrepresentative, especially after finding this thread? An X3 is def not a track car (more like m lite-lite by way of the M package following the logit on this thread). Should I just not use them? Or has this thread made me neurotic and I'm overthinking it? 🫠 |

It’s your car - do what you want. It’s not gonna stop us from mocking you though.
