Intermittent roof problem
hi guys, I have a 2010 23i, unfortunately I'm writing to get help with the roof, after searching many posts I can't quite find anything that relates to me.
I'll start by saying I have Carly for BMW and I am getting no faults code what so ever, even when the red roof warning is on the dash. So..... when I open the roof the rear window section that raises onto the roof goes up fairly slow, like it's struggling and more often or not it will stop with the red warning on the dash when the window section gets above the roof. I need to restart the car then the roof will carry on at its normal speed with out issue. Whilst closing the roof, it will always close without the need to restart the car, it all goes at normal speed until I get to that rear window section coming back down from the roof when it starts going slowly again, atleast it always closes though. Like I say, not a single fault code. Fluid is a little over the max line and not going down, so safe to say there is no leak. I've pulled the motor section from the pump and cleaned it out but all looked well anyway with no water damage etc. The pump is dry and not sitting in any water and from what I can see the wires and lines all seem to look ok. Has any one experienced any thing like this before? |

try to get a good look at the hinge for that rear window. May be binding or pinching something?

Carly will most likely not show codes for the top as most code readers will not either. You'll have to go to a dealer or an independent shop that has a full up BMW scan tool. What you're describing is probably a weak pump.

In most cases old, weak batteries are the source of roof problems. If it's the first one, get it replaced at first. On the 2nd place there will be broken wires in the roof panel (invisible from outside), on the 3rd place you will find defective microswitches. And in general, don't forget to check for water on the bottom of your trunk below and around the battery. Quote:
It's easy to detect with my diagnostic tool. In the following the complete opening sequence of all microswitches and hallsensors: [...] It was taken from a broken roof I was able to repair last week. If anybody needs some kind of support regarding the roof, feel free to get in contact with me or head over for a visit in Munich, Bavaria. Last edited by RobbiZ4; 04-30-2019 at 12:57 AM.. |
