My Modded Valencia Orange

My 2016 28i Non M . Painted front piece same color as car for a M look. Also New wheels and custom tablet install. Had a 2014 35is that i crashed in the same color. I missed the car so much i found another. Not quite the same, but car had 4000 miles on it and i couldnt pass on the price. Looks almost the same. Im Happy with my changes.

Love that color! The wheels are awesome too.

Are those OEM LED light strips in the bumper?

How is it going from a 35is to a 28i? Don't you miss the power? I love that color though, and the wheels too! And is that a retractable license plate holder under the front lip??

I take you’re not a VA fan. May I ask what color yours is?

Some would say "no color" is boring In a land of white, silver, grey and black automobiles, I'll opt for pigment every time!

From 35is to 28i ? That is a massive downgrade in terms of inherent power, as well as mod-ability. No regrets here ?

New member not getting much love here. Guy gets a low mileage beauty which he personalizes nicely and you make snide remarks about the color and the engine. Who cares if you don't agree with his choices.

Gasnet’s car is great. Even greater if it’s what he wants.

Please stop it with the feigned outrage over my remark, impulseE89. I had a legitimate question to pose that I'm positive others are also very interested in, given that he is in a very unique position here by circumstance. I look forward to his answer.

While the question could have been worded a little differently, I am interested in the answer.

I was tempted to purchase the 4 cylinder version before I bought is 35is. The lighter weight, better fuel economy along with a newer engine design was tempting. The 35is just feels so much heavier than my old E85.

I'm interesting to hear the opinion of someone who's owned both.

Good point rjahl. Every time I jump into my wife's DD 35i and see the average fuel milage readout at 22.1 mpg I wonder if I should have pushed harder for her to get the 28i instead. I mean, just how much horsepower does a woman in her early 60s really need?

I'm getting about 26-27 on my commute. Not bad but I really need to behave myself or the numbers go really bad. My E85 was around 28-30.

When I get around to building a tune for this I'm going to look at the light load fueling and ignition advance. I want to understand why the N52 at 25% load 2,500 rpm would run way above 40 degrees advance while the N54 is held to 33degrees advance.

BMW already crippled the lean burn mode, possible with the direct injection. I need to dig up the tune on an N53 and dig into it. So much to do, so little time.

Part of the reason why the E89 (35i and 35is) feel so much heavier than the E85 (owned one too) is that the suspension is SO much softer on the E89, and there is a lot more sound deadening as well (E85 had none), which is why it was a raw/purist experience. The E85 only looked fast, however, while the 35is is actually decently quick even in stock configuration. And yes, then there is the massive weight difference.

It always blows my mind how everything turns into an MPG when owning a car like this.

You have to pay to play guys. If you can't afford the total ownership of a vehicle, why did you purchase it?

On to the OP's question. I love the color, The wheels look great!!

My only complaint is the M badge on the grille.

Gas Mileage
Here in the Carolinas we have been enjoying cheap fuel. It has been as low as $1.65/gallon (regular) and is slowly going up. 93 octane is now about $3.00 or more at Shell. The sdrive 35i gets awfully good mileage considering the great response. The other models are probably even better and they are all quite responsive.
I might cut back a little if it hits say $4.50 (or maybe not)
Right now it costs about .12 cents/mile which must be ok because this is the first time I calculated it. If you are on high performance tires they are costing you maybe $.10/mile
When marine gas was at $5.00/gallon, my boat cost about $2.00/mile. I saw guys at the marina put $3000. in his tank.
As they say "your mileage may vary"

While I get your point, try ponying up $4/gal of premium like we do in Calif before passing too harsh a judgement on those who live in places other than the deep south!

Fair enough. But it is also like moving in next to a farm and complaining that it stinks. You had a lot of choices to choose from!

But I would think driving for 2 hours to go twenty miles is a bigger problem on your gas mileage than the car.

Who is complaining?

Like most of us here, I like to get the most out of cars. To me, mileage is just another performance goal. Something fun to monitor. My wife averages 23 in our GS350 so it's fun to beat her in my hi powered sports car. I wish the Z was as reliable but I'll be dammed if I'm going to do my 90 miles per day in a Prius.

Yes, I'll play with the tune for economy but also also work on the Turbo lag and a little more peek power. In time, for now I'm still researching. I spent too much time on the ZF tuning so I need to back off for a while.

But back to the OP, I like the color. I almost bought something similar but it was not to be.
