2022 Rolex 24 @ Daytona

Can't wait for IMSA to start this year! Headed to Daytona again in a few weeks, should be a great trip. Excited to see the new BMW M4 GT3 in person; hopefully RLL and Turner had the car long enough to get the most out of it.

Will be at the BMW CCA hospitality area most of the time, anyone else going?

This is the first time in about 15yrs that I have no plans to attend. I've bought the BMWCCA hospitality tickets the past two years and it was a nice setup.

The initial 50 packages sold out in less than 10 mins, but another set of 25 was just added, so hopefully some of those are left.

The corral package is a really good deal too. Includes dedicated infield parking, 2 race tickets (bring a friend), catered food (which has been pretty great), and OPEN BAR! Plus, our seats overtop of pit row is pretty cool, although I usually end up in the grandstands above turn 1 to see the entire track. We'll have paddock/garage visits w/ RLL and Turner so we can see the new M4 GT3 car up close.

Will be at the BMW championship club this year for the first time. Been going for past few year, BMWCCA is a great option but tickets are limited.

This one includes a few minutes prior so that you can see what lead up to the final lap.

Where’s the video of the fistfight that followed? That was some serious shenanigans between the Porsches. Looks like none of the 3 M4’s made it to the end? ☹️

BMW just crapped the bed with their performance. What are the details of their failures or issues? Very little was said on the broadcast and I can't find any narrative of their weekend.

This Sportscar365.com site said only this about the BMW's:
"Both BMWs battled a variety of issues, including a dislodged floor for one of the cars early on."

Yeah, BMW commentary has been cryptic or non-existent.

That was epic. I don't like to see anybody crash out, but that #9 car pretty much earned it. I think they finished 3rd as a result.

Stoked to see both drivers handling the outcome with absolute sportsmanship and class.

That was a special finish.

During the race, both RLL cars had diffuser problems and eventually took them off the car Turner was running a great strategic race (up to P5 w/ no pace at all), but had to retire when they were rear ended and couldn't continue.

However, this race was lost before it even started when IMSA gave them BOP that essentially crippled the car (all 3 cars get the same BOP). They were clearly 2 seconds behind the fastest laps at the Roar the week before and then got hit w/ a weight INCREASE and REDUCTION in fuel capacity. Apparently, IMSA was kinda generous and gave them more aero for the rear wing, but that didn't do anything for pace.

In our pre-race meetings w/ RLL and Turner, both tried to downplay the ridiculous BOP and they still tried to petition IMSA up to the race itself, with no lucky obviously.

For those that remember, BMW went through the same thing with the M8 GTE; they weren't competitive at all until 3/4 of the way into the season when they finally got favorable BOP. The next race is Sebring which doesn't rely on Daytona or any other race to determine BOP, so I will bet the farm they will continue to get BOP'd out of the race.

So what's the takeaway that IMSA thinks they were indeed sandbagging huge and that's why they gave weight and capacity? I saw those penalties before the race started and couldn't believe it.

This is what happens when BOP is announced with no further explanation by IMSA. It's also a shame that Daytona, Sebring, and IMSA as a whole can't come up w/ a way to objectively calculate BOP consistently
