Wha???

The law here pays for much more than just the headlight rule change. If anything, this headlight rule change is already paid for since NHTSA has been working the change since at LEAST 2018 and have had it in final rule stage since then... They are just dragging their feet.

Hell everyone thought they would have published the rule in 2020...

But I guess you also object to the government spending money on filling potholes too

This. Although this is an AMAZING, long overdue change it sadly we could not see it for years. From the article
Quote:
Under section 24212 of the bill, which is appropriately titled "HEADLAMPS," it's stated that "Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall issue a final rule amending Standard 108"—that's the transportation regulation pertaining to headlight design.
Expect another 2 years of nothing at a minimum.

Is the coding currently available in Bimmercode?

Yes - Do you have Bimercode and are you familiar with it in Expert mode?

If so - it is under "BDC_BODY" and Section "3073" and you change

LUT_FLC_FORWARDLIGHTING_Y FROM (F015_ohne_AFS) TO (F015_mit_AFS)

AND

C_AFS_ENA FROM (F015_disable) TO (F015_enable)

Exciting. We can turn on our adaptive feature with no ramifications. It has been disappointing knowing it was available on my car, but not being able to use it.

I have Bimmercode but never delved into the Expert territory.

It's pretty easy - just stick to what you have instructions on and avoid "flying blind" LOL. I've never had any issues at all.

Good explanation of the various adaptive features and what hardware is required for them to work as well as how to code the various modules:

so is there no need for ESYS coding for anti-dazzle then? I guess I have to return the cable I bought from amazon

Anti-dazzle - maybe? I don't know. My car can't do that even with coding, so I do not know. I do KNOW, you don't need ESYS for coding VLD - which I do have and coded with Bimmercode.

Someone else will have to answer for the anti-dazzle. I don't have LED, so no dice here.

I've un-decoded the adaptive led headlights in my '15 M sport diesel and absolutely love them! I have yet to have anyone flashing at me about my headlights so they do really work. Glad this might end up legal finally!

BMW dealers certainly won't change the coding for free.
