Looks ridiculously good. Wonder why they neutered it with a 585hp engine for the 63 though. Considering even lower end models like the E63 etc get 600+.
Edit: heck my SL63 with amg performance pack from 2013 had 557hp. The M8 convertible will eat this for lunch at least in terms of straight line performance. |

I thought it was supposed to be smaller and lighter? It's bigger and about the same weight as R231, a quick glance suggests.

Not bad. The rear end is giving me 911 vert vibes. Being a 2+2 should make it more comfortable than the current AMG GT too. The current GT roadster is a little more hardcore than the SL so it'll be interesting to see how different the driving experience is between this and the new GT.

That's the first thing I thought as well. That and some Jag vibes on the side profile. Overall I really like it though. Cohesive and not an over-engineered look.

I get that but the Gt 4 door which also sells at the same price point gets a 63 with 600+ hp and still had no issues getting a hybrid version too. And there's no other convertible to protect considering the S63 and GTC have already bit the dust. Can't say it was neutered for the sake of traction either like like GT considering this is AWD.

The current rumors on MBWorld is that the Hybrid will be a lower-tier model only offered in EU due to emissions and taxes on the V8 and so far the only hybrid model that has been spotted used the lower-tier quad circular tips rather than square tips. It will possibly be a similar powertrain similar to the upcoming C63, as I'm not sure all the tech from the GT63e will fit in the new SL.

Having owned one with the hard top, I don't mind seeing a soft top. There were some common issues with the hard top with trim pieces that would easily break and required entire new trim panels to be replaced to fix them at $1,200 per side. A replacement top if needed was a staggering $25,000.

I’d drive it, but after it’s dropped $100k in value in 3 years.

Great looking car. It's unfortunate how the SL has lost relevance the past 10-12 years. I hope this recaptures some of its former glory.
On a side note, Mercedes coupes/verts have terrible visibility and this appears no different. One of my friends has a C43 Coupe and I jokingly refer to it as a bathtub. It feels like you're piloting a heavy boat.

I wouldn't go that far. I had an R231 SL63 and it looks mean in the flesh. Doesn't do much in pics. FWIW having owned both an R231 and an F13 concurrently the SL had way more street presence despite being competitors (I'm talking model lines not trim levels). I sold it to get the Viper back in 2017 and still miss my R231. Never had a soft top convertible although I'm not against giving it a chance. Its just that an SL with 4 seats and a soft top with BCGTC pricing makes one consider the BCGTC V8 for the same price (folks on MBWorld say the SL55 will cost about $140k, and SL63 will ofc cost about 30k more at least), or save some money and get an M8C vert that arguably looks and performs better IMHO.
