Is anyone in this thread actually worried about EV fires? I can't imagine any of you guys not letting your friend with a Tesla Model Y park in your garage in real life.

Gasoline trucks are not parked next to your house or in your driveway.

You don't know the level of mental gymnastics some people will go through to reaffirm some arbitrary position they hold.

I won't. A Tesla in the house is a sign that I've lost my sense of taste and sight and lost my will to live..I won't become a musk minion.

You would be wrong, Good thing I had an HD extension cord for my friend.
I'm not too happy about the LiPo battery in my M4 CS.

There are lots of things to fear. You've got yours. It's lithium batteries. That's fine.

My company sells LiPo and LiFe batteries. I know a lot about them. I don't fear them but I'm also am not in the habit of taking unnecessary chances. We inspect every battery once a month for puffing. We keep a pail with supersaturated saline solution to neutralize the bad batteries prior to disposal. I keep two 2 35lbs pails of sand to pour over batteries that catch fire. So hell no I will never own a EV for that reason alone. More importantly, I'm as much of an environmentalist as I can afford to be and I find EV's to be an environment nightmare and a distraction from proven technologies that will make a difference in clean air, water and soil.

You’ll have anti ev people say yes because to them ev is a threat to their passion in ICE.

Then you’ll have actual ev owners with great real world experience who will say no, but then the anti ev people will say we’re saying no because we’re puppets.

Let time dictate reality. Can’t wait for 2030!

That is a very awesome question. I’ll answer it for you. I absolutely would not. In fact, I would not let the electric car be within 15’ of any structure on my property. I hope this helps you.

I watch videos by Matt Watson all the time. I’m sure you guys do as well. I’ve never seen him destroy a car like this. Holy crap. Honestly I’m a little bummed out with Elon on this one. The build quality of this thing is atrocious. Kia has better quality control. Anyway watch his video. Putting this car in to drive is a pathetic joke.

Could be a number of reasons but this looks like slumping sales at first blush. Is it possible that EV's aren't catching on with the public?

Outside of Tesla, I don't see many EVs around to be honest... the KIA / Hyundai / BMW Ev's are somewhat rare.

Toyota Hybrids are also everywhere but one could argue that's because they were first and have the largest market share.

I see the makings of many a new horror film.

A remake of Steven Spielberg’s Duel? Man chased by a self driving Tesla?
Christine goes EV?
Maximum Tesla?
Death Race 2030?

Quite possible. I'll just repeat it...

When you can recharge your ICE vehicle to 100% of its 400-mile range in 5 minutes. Waiting around for 30 minutes to recover just 80% range (under ideal conditions) for an expensive EV, is just not going to make market penetration at the level Govenment wants it to. Sorry, just reality. The public is not really that stupid.

Agree that charge time parity with refueling an ICE would help move the market. But, don't underestimate the nice benefit of charging at home which is probably 90 percent of most use cases like mine. It's really nice. I have truly enjoyed it.

I think at home charging is the actual issue. I think a 90% use case is actually not the case. I've tried to find the numbers on it, but I'd bet it's more like 45% of car owners can charge at home. Between single family homes, garage facility or driveway parking, and charger installation access/cost, and rentals, the number is more like 45%, if that even. The 55% to 60% of the market just doesn't accept EV charging requirements at a public charging station.

Outside of Tesla's networked infrastructure, road tripping an EV isn't a good scenario for most people.

This would be absolutely perfect for me: https://www.thedrive.com/news/the-el...miles-of-range

Exactly what I'm looking for. Flip that steering wheel to the left side and get it to North America post haste! So yes, I still want an EV, but nothing on the market that isn't a SUV or wank-fest of technology. Simple, small, light, decent range, quick. This has it all!

Notice the dash? All analog!
