Grille Question

I am in the middle of purchasing 2015 35is.
This one has chrome/silver front kidney grille.
Is this standard? I see some has black and some has chrome.
Can someone explain?

Is black/chrome grill for specific packages / model year ? or is it purely the option when the vehicle was built?

I believe the chrome/silver ones are standard for the 35is models at least mine came with them. But I've replaced them with the blacked out grilles so that may answer your question why you see different types of grilles.

You have to remember that e89 Z4 does not have an ///M model in its line up. Instead, they had 35is - which is a step up from 35i and sorta exclusive top of the line model. It is different from ALL other Z4 with exterior matte chrome accents (front bumper air vents inserts, grill, mirror covers), interior accents (floor mats, speedometer bearing model name, etc).
So, replacing your chrome silver grill is actually deliberately deleting an accent that distinguishes your particular Z4 from all other cheaper models, in my opinion.
I'd keep it if I were you)
(In fact, I have 35is and I surely kept mine, adding a slight ///M touch to it. See pic)
