Greetings,
Has anyone installed 265 or 275 width tires on to their 8.5 rims? I like tread width.

I know rims are designed to have specific range of size tires, and deviating from that can affect tire wear and handling. In the past, I've installed wider tires with no adverse effects on tire wear and handling for "my driving."

I know me considering wider tires is an indication of a genetic deformity or communistical thinking.

Getting past all that, any one out there with wider rear tires? Any photos? Thank you.

Cheers!

8.5 j is too narrow for a 265 under any circumstances related to an E89..

So it’s not clever , would void insurance if so found and illegal in certain jurisdictions..

Apart from that it’s fine !

My current setup is:

Front tires = 245/35R18
Front wheel = 8.5x18 ET35

Back tires = 265/35R18
Back wheel = 9.5x18 ET35

Just to note, if you care about handling at all, a good rule of thumb is to keep the tread width at or 0.5" smaller than the rim width. A 275 width tire has a tread width roughly a full inch larger than the rim width. Gonna be rolling all over those tire shoulders before you firm up and the car actually turns.
