Had a conversation with the nice people at AVIN USA yesterday and they are in the mists of releasing a package for E89. If you are not aware AVIN make android based replacement screens for BMWs. The kits are plug and play and work great from my experience. Can't wait to get one for my Z4 35is.

Thoughts from other owners ?

Is this an upgrade to the Idrive version or an add-on for non-iDrive cars?

@airwalk776 did you ask about group-buy possibility?

I just asked AVIN USA if it will work with a non-iDrive equipped vehicle.

I hear you are making a version for the BMW Z4 e89. Will it require an iDrive equipped car or can it be used in a non-iDrive car (without access to the iDrive features, of course)
AVIN USA

both will be supported
should be available in about 3 weeks

AVIN USA
Sounds interesting, would need to be a different mounting design between the iDrive and non-idrive versions. I've been talking to a-carnavi.com regarding this over the last year but have had no luck recently, they say they are going to develop it but nothing recently. They seem to be selling the exact same version as AVIN USA do, so maybe they work together.

Would be nice to see some photos if any are available.

The version that they are known for making is in support of replacing a current iDrive factory install. all the OEM features still work as before but the screen is basically and touch screen android tablet. (also will have CarPlay compatibility if its anything like the other units they make)

I can't wait been waiting for a while now for this. I was actually reaching out to them to see if I can disassemble one of the other units they make and stuff it into the OEM screen enclosure that flips up.

Group buy would be great when we get to that point in time.

I know it's Android, but will it support Android auto via phone?

OK, a little background for those who are non-iDrive...

AVIN USA and a-carnavi.com make this version for the e90 series in both Left-Hand and Right-Hand drive versions....
https://avinusa.com/10-25-bmw-3-seri...on-system.html

This system turns the standard Professional head-unit into an iDrive equivalent by adding in a T cable loom and then modifying the dash top for the screen. The Left-Hand version has been on the market for a couple of years now with the Right-Hand version coming out earlier this year. It is an identical set up connection-wise to the e89 so all you would need is a mount.
Now this does run a 10" screen and the space for the dash-top cubby/ iDrive pop up screen would be for an 8" screen of which they do use for some other configurations, so would be best suited to the 8" so as to not need to alter the dash for either iDrive cars and non iDrive cars.

It's a very neat system indeed and adds so much more to what you can achieve over the standard iDrive package

I've asked on the Facebook page for "Car DVD player GPS navigation" (the Facebook page for a-carnavi.com) and they say theirs will be available in a month. So, as per what I've already written above, I'd expect AVIN USA to release theirs at the same time being the exact same units.

Same here, both companies are really difficult to talk to or at least get information out of. You'd think they'd be pre-promoting this but instead they are both keeping very quiet about it, strange way to run a business!

OK, so I've managed to get hold of these photos for the one from a-carnavi.com.
The one on the dash with the white sides is a prototype I believe as the black looks much better. I'm assuming this will be the style for both iDrive and non-iDrive Z4's.
Once I have more details I'll post them up

I'd assume not so will be fixed like all the others.
I'm waiting on more detailed photos of it fitted and working
