No problems for me. But I will not use it until someone from either bmw or Apple confirms something.
I am using a case but it’s a apple case with magsafe so shouldn’t be an issue. Had the same case for my 14 pro max

What’s a wireless charger?

The built in USB C port in modern BMWs will fast charge an iPhone to 50% in 20 minutes.

My concern is if Apple sees a trend and feels it’s a BMW issue they may stop replacing phones and tell users to seek assistance from BMW. I think we all know how that would go. I’m just not using the wireless charging pad which sucks as I used my iPhone 14 as my key since the pad is also the NFC reader.

iOS 17.0.3 is available now for download and has fixed this issue.
It was not only related to wireless car charging.

This happens to us all the time in our X7 and drives us nuts. Seems like a software issue.

I experienced the same issue. Put 15PM on wireless charger for 30 minutes, got error that Apple Pay no longer functional, took to Apple and they replaced my week-old phone without issue. I haven’t put my phone on wireless charger since. Convinced that wireless charging is the culprit.

Today I have a new issue. CarPlay screen is all blank. Phone is connected and if a call comes then I can hear it and talk fine but the CarPlay entire screen is just plain black and shows nothing on it. Pressing anything doesn’t do anything other to exit the screen and Spotify from CarPlay doesn’t work.

I ultimately just connected to Spotify in the car app not having a choice. No messages pop on screen since CarPlay isn’t working. And I turned off the car and let is set it for hours and tried again and same issue.

So damn annoying these glitches.

EDIT: Tried deleting the phone from car and car from phone several times to get it to work and nothing. The Bluetooth and telephone parts connect but the Apple CarPlay part doesn’t connect at all and keeps giving an error consistently saying ‘unable to connect’. So essentially I have no CarPlay functionality, or Siri who I use extensively. Arghhh.

WARNING: DO NOT USE A 15 PRO MAX WITH THE WIRELESS CHARGER!!

After installing the new update 17.03 my phone has been bricked again. No longer able to use Apple Pay. There is a serious problem with this phone and the BMW wireless phone charger.

I have an IPhone 15 on the way from Apple. I guess I’ll keep it away from my M3

Yes I did the latest update on my iPhone 15 Pro Max (but still not using it on wireless charger) but for whatever reason Apple CarPlay has now completely stopped working. Doesn't connect at all. Bluetooth and telephone work but CarPlay is not functional as of right now.

Just got an Iphone software update today and a message from BMW Toronto telling me there's a recall for the power control unit. He said probably has to do with wireless charging.. looks like they're all on top of this.

How would that go exactly?

If Apple were to attempt to address it via a “BMW” only issue. They would do it via software. No way they would deny the customer a warranty swap as it would come off as tarnishing their brand. Especially when they specifically marketed BMW cars like the G30 specifically for features like Apple CarKey.

If that didn’t work they would work through BMW to fix the charger. But since it is an issue unique to the iPhone 15 it definitely isn’t a BMW caused problem.

The iPhone can detect it is outside of a safe operating temperature and turn off wireless charging to cool down. Obviously, the iPhone 15 wasn’t doing this. Hence the patch.

Didn't ask for it. I spoke to the guy on the phone and he said it's the wireless charging tray, they may need it overnight. Finding a different dealer atm as I'm not leaving my car at a dealership for days for a simple update..

Yet a standard Qi charger at the office or MagSafe charger at home does what they're supposed to — charge normally.

Sometimes I wonder if it's because of the LTE signal booster built into our wireless charger that's causing something to go awry as I've been in rental cars with wireless charging (but no built-in LTE amplifier) that don't give me these issues.

Yikes, I am currently waiting for my 15 pro max to arrive. I have an overheating issue when wireless charging my iPhone 12 Pro Max in my Porsche too. So I think it’s how QI charging works, not necessarily BMW’s implementation of it.

Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I put my IPhone 15 PM on the charging tray after I landed from Chicago. Battery was really low. Listened to CarPlay on the way home. Trip took about one hour. After I got home I noticed a Apple Pay error which required a factory reset. A white screen appeared and said it was reinstalling apps. This did not fix it. Once you click on the Apple Pay error it sends you Apple support. Spent an hour with agent (#1 Non-U.S.)- ran diagnostics remotely , and confirmed error. Then connected me to agent #2.(U.S.) who said she didn’t know what to do and elevated me to her supervisor agent #3. This person was awesome. Replaced the phone. I referenced this site and see forwarded it to Apple engineers. Sent me new phone and new AirPods for my trouble. Hardware issue FOR SURE. My iPhone 14 pro max didn’t have any issues in my XM. Good luck everyone!! Put a condom on that phone😂😝 or just say no to traying.
