2020 3 years reliability. BMW is still higher than Kia.

Kia is higher than Merc. That’s remarkable!

If I could have gotten 5-10% off on a Telluride I would have ordered one over the X5. I do think Kia is shooting themselves in the foot by not making and selling as many as possible.

The SX has Nappa leather and real nice finishes. Most X5s have a lower class of leather than that unless you buy the Luxury Searing Pack or pay $2,000 for it a la carte.

Im really looking forward to seeing the new Genesis SUV in the flesh once they are out. I drove a G70 sport for 2 weeks and I liked it as much as an M340i while not quite as peppy.

The new G80 BMW is horrible. They better watch it or they will get passed by Kia N.

Yeah you need to check out those genesis GV80s. They should be at the dealer now, mine has like 9 of them. Really nice car. If I had another $20k in my budget we would probably be driving one haha.

Side note to the whole conversation of everything vs Kia, my whole thing is this telluride is probably the best bang for your buck new large SUV that you can buy. Hence why I went after it. Not arguing it's better then a brand new BMW or Denali or whatever. But if you want to talk shit on it I would recommend going an driving one first, as without doing so the comment is literally meaningless. They've really come a long way.

Brand snobbery is indeed a real thing!!

I know because unbeknownst to me I suffered from it. When the Genesis first dropped in 2008 I loved everything about them....except the Hyundai part. I couldn't or wouldn't consider them because in the 1990's the Excel sucked!!! In 2011 I was involved in an accident that totaled my Lexus, not my fault, everyone was ok. I had all but purchased a replacement Lexus and on the way to the Ft. Wayne, IN Lexus dealer I decided to stop and try a Genesis. I drove it.....loved it....but it was a Hyundai for crying out loud. I made it up to the Lexus dealer and test drove my new GS. It was AWFUL when compared to the Genesis. I left and bought the Genesis that day. It makes zero difference to me whether or not others agree with how I feel about my cars....it takes all kinds. But to speak on the topic whilst not taking the time to check them out.....I find that to be rather silly. But again, it takes all kinds. I see people posting about the motors being trash, the interior being sub par, all nonsense spoken by people who haven't sat behind the wheel.

Great story and I 100% agree with you. These Genesis products, and the regular Hyundai/Kia products are excellent. Does the brand have its shortcomings? Yes, but so does every other brand.

The new G70 is a fantastic car, that I see so many people bash on here without having sat in or driven it. The new GV70, G80 and GV80 with their own design language, switchgear and parts only up the game. All they need to work on now is the dealership experience as that was one of the factors that helped with Lexus' early success.

.....and for the record, the ONLY issue I had with my 2010 Genesis and then my 2016 was the stereo in the 2010. The sound system was PHENOMENAL, but had to be replaced at a cost of $3k.....under warranty. Other then that they were both every bit as reliable as the Lexus's I had prior. I can't subscribe to the Hyundai/KIA cars are trash stuff, because I have 1st hand knowledge to the contrary.

Edit: that wasn't a true statement. The clear coat on the 1st generation Genesis sedans was atrocious! Especially the pearl white cars (both of mine). The clear coat began peeling from the plastic painted bits.....both bumpers. It drove me crazy. It began around the 60k mile mark on the 2010 but was never an issue with the 2016.

My wife had an Optima during the big engine fire scandal, so I'm still a little sour on the Korean brands. But they've definitely stepped up from a design and dynamics perspective.

I mean, they're not bad but when I worked at Kia there were so many Optimas, Sorentos, souls, Sportages, and Fortes in the Service center in need of new engines before 100k miles.

We sold a 2018 Kia Sorento(in 2019) that was a service loaner(it had like 3-4k miles on it) and that thing caught on fire the next month on the highway. The lady that brought the car called the sales guy WHILE THE CAR WAS ON FIREand asked him WTH SHE SHOULD DOHow is the sales guy supposed to come help you? I guess common sense is not so common

I think that burnt Sorento is still sitting in the back lot of the dealership covered in a tarp (so customers that walk the lot or driveway out in the back don't see that burnt Kia.

I'd rather buy a Toyota over a Kia in terms of reliability.

I don't know of anyone who thinks that Hyundai or Kia (or any other make for that matter) can match Toyota for reliability.

But the Kia does come with the 10 year powertrain warranty. That might be why there were so many cars in the dealership for a new engine. If a brand without such a warranty blows a motor, it is probably the end of that car so it won't be in the dealership for a motor replacement.

Very few ever have the ability to use the full 10 year powertrain warranty as a tiny number of people buy/lease a new car and keep it for 10 years and the warranty isn't transferable to the next owner. The idea that there are old cars lined up at the dealership waiting for new engines seems to be nothing more than speculation and I would like to see where this information came from.

Those engine replacements were likely IIRC recalls, as a while back Hyundai recalled a lot of Sonata's (the 6th Gen) and other vehicles with similar engines, which likely extended towards Kia models that shared the engine. The fire risk was also a recall. While these are severe recalls, they are not uncommon amongst other brands, even BMW has done large recalls for fire risks, as well as N63 engines in general which received many recalls, and other brands such as Honda and Toyota have had severe recalls. Hyundai/Kia as a whole though still while maybe not as reliable as Toyota or Honda, are likely better than Nissan, most European and American brands.

The 10 years 100k mile powertrain warranty is transferable if the car is purchased certified pre-owned. If not, it is not transferable.

I worked at a Kia dealership for a year. So, I've seen what came in and out of the service center and what it was there for.

Every Monday, there would be a truck that came before closing time (9:00 pm) and dropped off a few big crates with an engine in them.

I worked at Napleton's Elgin Kia if anyone cares to look them up

Eh, the Optimas, Souls, Sorento, and Sportages that came in for new engines were probably between 2009-2017.

Majority of the Kias that needed an engine where the Souls, Sportage and Optimas. There weren't too many Sorentos that came in for an engine replacement.

You are not the first person who worked for Kia that has said they constantly are getting new engines at low mileage. There is a Kia mechanic on tiktok whos entire page is showing all the different cars that are getting new engines. I believe in one video he showed 22 replacement engines in the dealer at once.

I didn't even know tiktok would have a Kia mechanics on it

We had a separate body shop attached to our dealership that had a few Kia engines outback. So, there were some in the service department and some outback.
