Comfort Access stopped working
The other day I was out for lunch and when I came back to the car, the comfort access is not working.
I can't open anything outside and inside it doesn't detect either key. The remotes work fine using the buttons, and you can start the car if you put the key in the slot. Batteries are good in the remotes. Also, it had a weird smell in the car the day it happened, smells like burnt electronics. I am taking it in tomorrow to be looked at. Has anyone else had this happen to them? |

Coincidentally, it might have happened to me today.
I smelled the burnt electronics smell this morning when I drove it. That was the first time that had happened. I only drive the car once a week or so. So, I did not notice any thing wrong, except the locks were not unlocking as I put my hand on the door lever. However, I assumed the batteries in the fobs were dead or almost dead. (I just learned about them needing to be in the slot to recharge, and I had not put them in the slot for a while.) I will need to examine to see what features if any disappeared after that smell. |

Thanks. Not sure where I got that idea. Thought I read it somewhere. Anyway, I checked the manual and you are correct. It has replaceable batteries. I'll need to get new batteries to see if Comfort Access it working properly. It's a good idea to read those manuals....

Mine is at the shop now. It's under warranty.
I will update this thread when I know more. No part of my comfort access would work. Unlock, Lock, Trunk, or Engine Start. When I would try to start the engine it would put up the symbol that the key was not in range. If I put the key in the slot it would start just fine and all buttons on the remotes worked. I checked the batteries first to be sure they were good. The odd thing is, the smell is coming from inside the cab and no smell in the trunk. It is coming from behind the dash the best I can tell. About a year ago I had the new combox installed so I could keep my SOS & Assist functions. This was installed by the dealer and paid for by BMW. I wonder If during that install they crushed a wire and it is just now shorted out. |

I got a call and was told the driver's door handle was the issue. They are replacing it.
Odd how that would disable the entire comfort access system. |
