Hardtop barely opens?

My 2009 hardtop will open several inches, then stop. The dash shows the red hardtop error and the console shows red blinking led.

If I remove the key, shut the driver door then reinsert the key, the top will stow correctly.

See pic.

Any ideas?

What is the behavior when you operate the top with the engine running?

Good question. The top stops after a few inches regardless of a) on battery or b) while the engine is running.

I will add;
1) that i've pushed/prodded with the exposed wiring looms and microswitches that are visible in the above picture with no change.
2) hydraulic fluid level is fine
3) the top will stop regardless of outside temp

So I'm guessing the issue is in a microswitch that i can't readily see

You should get a scanner on there and see if you are getting any helpful codes.

Reservoir is in the trunk next to the battery. The reservoir has a min and max line, much like a power steering reservoir

Wires broken in the rear roof shell. Can be soldered/replaced by new wires. The microswitches should be ok from my experience.

Memphis sounds interesting, never been there before.
Rob

PS: get the 2 salmon relais replaced asap to avoid a damaged hydraulic pump in addition.

Looks like your car is all wet. You sure your hydro unit motor isn’t soaked in water?

Check this connector, i posted the above and it cured my roof problem.
My roof would stow, but then all would freeze, boot wouldn't close.

Bigendbob nailed it. It was a broken wire on the driver side on the back windshield section.
