ESS Z4 35i performance software
We just finished testing our Z4 35i performance software. Along with improving performance we also configured it to work flawlessly with the DCT transmission. The software adds a significant amount of torque thru the midrange. The dyno below is our 14 PSI tune on 91 US 95 Ron fuel.
Feel free to PM or email me for more info or if you have questions ** Update** Testing has finished on our end user flash loader that allows customers to install their own software without removing the ECU or installing hardware in the vehicle. Once installed the customer can switch between stock and tuned software maps with the push of a button. Last edited by sales@ESSTuning; 10-14-2010 at 02:39 PM.. |

We have parts for the older Z4M but I am looking for local guys to bring their car so we can develope our intake and exhaust. As soon as we have the intercooler done, I'm sure ESS will come out with an awesome tuning package like they did with the 335.

It really depends on the customers definition of better because everyone has different expectations and needs when it comes to tuning. We feel there are many advantages to re-writing the original software instead of tricking it with a plug in device like a piggyback. First you have 100% control over the DME's functions and all of the original software's built in safety features. This allows for very good drivability and the piece of mind in knowing that the cars computer knows exactly what's going on at all times. This keeps issues like limp modes, thrown codes and erratic random engine behavior from becoming an issue. Other small advantages are things like not having to remove plug in boxes and erase codes for routine trips to the dealer. Some don't see this as an inconvience but many do. BMW has recently added hidden tuner detection codes in the N54 software that triggers when the DME detects third party manipulation or interference. Dealers can scan for this code when you take your car in for service. Our software does not trigger this hidden code or any other codes unless there is a real problem with the engine. We can also raise the stock rev limiter and remove the top speed governor correctly for customers who request it.
Aside from all of that this software was designed and road tested specifically for the Z4 35i. We made sure DCT customers would not exceed the transmissions torque limits set by BMW and risk damage or failure. We also made sure the shifting on the DCT works 100% with the added power of the software flash so that the car drives as good if not better then stock. |

Are you implying that there's no need to flash back to stock before taking car in for routine annual tune-up? I am afraid that dealer runs routine check on ECU during tune-up will pick up aftermarket software. In short, for peace of mind, do you recommend flashing back to stock before any dealer work? Thanks

Finally had a chance to get my software flashed and all I can say is WOW! the car has soo much more torque from 3k to 5k. After driving it around for a few days it feels super smooth and the throttle response is great. Im not suprised considering how well my ESS Z4 M software was. The car should have come from the factory like this. Now I need to get some new wheels and hopefully someone will make a good coilover set up for this car.
